Hi,

I have a 3 PC network at home. One PC has XPhome, One has Win2k, & one has Win98.

I have a 4 port Linksys Router that is networking all the PCs.

The Win2k machine cannot see shared folders on the other two machines.

The other two machines can see shared folders on each other, but cannot see shared folders on the win2k machine (but can see the win2k machine itself in the network neighboorhood folder).

The Win2k cant see anything but if you map via IP address (linksys has the DHCP feature) you can access the other machines but it is slow.

Anyway, I have this situation where the Win2k machine wont share (sharing folders is enabled & I have about 10 folders that are shared) & it wont look at the other machines unless it is done via IP.

Anyway, any suggerstions would be great. I am pretty much lost.

Thanks,
Rich

well i always have this problem when i do LAN parties, first off, if the 2k and Xp box are running NTFS file systems the win98 box will not be able to see them 98 does not have support for NTFS. As far as getting the other machines to see each other, just run the network setup in network neighborhood on all the machines, reboot, make sure that folders are shared and access is allowed, i always just have to tinker with it and after about 2 or 3 reboots on the machines they finally all "talk" to each other (xcept for my old roomates 98 box, heh sucks for him)

hehe you have to think back whether or not you have fat32 or NTFS on your win2k machines. OH and sometimes it helps to have TCP/IP and IPX installed, too... I mean besides the file sharing and what not... :) good luck!

NTFS will not be causing the problems. As long as the OS of the machine sharing the drive can read it, it'll be accessible provided the permissions(share and NTFS) and workgroup/domain are set up correctly.

There's a good amount of information, including how to configure the systems here:

Win2k has the guest account disabled by default, you problem could be as simple as enabling this account. It already exists, just have to unclick the box that has it disabled.

This is all good stuff! Thanks for the replies. I will have to check it out when I get home, but I dont think I played with the guest settings at all.

The Win98 (fat32) & XP (NTFS) have no problem seeing each others shared folders & such so I dont think the NTFS is the issue.

Why does the WIN2k box have a hard time seeing the other PC's? Everyone is using the same DHCP server & has IPS assigned to them.

Aside from no one can get into the win2K FOLDERS. The Win2k machine cant get to the other box (aside from maping the IP address of the other machines).

The WIn2k box also wont share its printer.
