Anyone ever tried adding about 10% amonia to their water? A buddy of mine who works in heating and air conditioning told me that most all industrial grade coolers use amonia in the water because it will cool faster. He said it runs in copper pipes so it doesn't react with copper. Just curious if anyone had heard of this or tried it.

Thanks,

there are actual refrigeration units that use ammonia as a coolant.......but never heard of it being mixed with water.

ammonia is not going to react with copper due to its nature with water and all. I don't know about cooling faster, but its worth a shot. You could only do this in a closed loop circuit though, you don't want to inhale ammonia, its not so good.
