I freind of mine (really) just tried changing the multiplier on his cpu to see if it was factory unlocked. I think its an 18 or 1900. Now, the thing wont post even after resetting the cmos. I did this before just for grins and it booted right up after cmos clear. Is it possible to fry it by doing this?

i don't think it would be likely to fry the chip that way, it just wouldn't post. try leaving the cmos jumper on clear for a longer period, overnight maybe. try again in the morning. it should be fine.

i have never heard of a cpu frying from doing something like that. Like juliendogg said let site overnight on clear mode

Thanks guys- he just called me and said that his bios needed everything to (including mobo connector!) to be unplugged before the cmos would reset. Sounds kinda shifty to me. Maybe he wouldnt admit that he couldnt find the jumper :-)

so he fixed the problem ?
Cuss some mobo to reset the bios you need to put a jumper to short the cmos out and tthen pull the lithium battery out for about 5-10 sec then put it back like it was.
