I have an Antec 400W SmartPower, about a 2 years old. I just replaced the fan (I tentatively recommend the panaflo that KD Computers is selling for $5 - very quiet). Immediately the case was far quieter, but having used an extra DigitalDoc header instead of the internal speed regulator, I'd like to see how far I can push it.

With a Zalman at half speed on the CPU, I'm hearing nuances of music I haven't noticed in a long time (at least not while working).

With many more fans set to come on in any emergency (including redundant CPU fannage) I have no fear except slow-cooking my rig.

Anybody know the upper long term temp limit of a typical PS?

Operating Temp.
10 to 50 ºC

Operating Alt.
Sea Level-10,000 ft

MTBF
50,000 hrs. @ 25ºC

I'm not sure if there's been any testing at higher temps for a sustained amount of time though.

Thank you kindly, Rep.

I wanted to know if what I'm doing is safe. I replaced the internal fan with a Panaflo set to half speed (the power source now inaudible) but the temps are ~30C.

I'll set the DigitalDoc alarm to 40C to avoid "obvious" stress and risk the rest.
