A few people have done window mods on their CD/DVD drives (including Starfoxer hehe). Is it possible to remove the drive internals of a slim/notebook drive so that I could put a window in a notebook drive?

Slim CD-ROM drive are by far the easiest to add a window to since the top half comes off when you remove 3 tiny screws. It's a totally non-vital part.
But, I had to add some metal spacers in order to space the plexi so that it wouldn't touch the sindle or the tray when I screw it down.
It woud be alot easier to simply cut a section out of the top cover but I was too lazy to do that at the time...
Edit: Doh! My brother took his Digital Camera back. I was going to post pictures of how to do this...

Thanks :). I dont need a how-to, but in one of the pics of a particular drive I was looking at, it seemed that some part of the spindle was attached at the top or something. Thinking back, that makes no sense :D. Also, for the spacers, I have a few ways around that ;).
