ive been wanting to know for a LONG time whether there is any difference at all between all geforce4 ti4200's besides the cooler and ram. i want to overclock one of these babies. is there any difference between the cores and pcb? if not... i just want to get the cheapest one like mabye a chaintech or albatron. im under the impression that there is no difference in overclocking potential between all ti4200's unless they have different cooling or ram.... so thats basically what im looking for. am i wrong?

There is an Albetron version of the Ti4200, the name escapes me right now. It is a sweet card. Its got BGA ram and O/Cs very well. The only problem is its $185 last time I saw it and you can get a Ti4400 delivered for just $10 more (the Ti4400 has BGA mem also).
I think it is the only Ti4200 with BGA mem, but I could easily be wrong.

by the way, the reason im asking all this is cause everyone is always like "get gainward! gainward gainward gainward!" but by comparison i cant see a single difference between gainward's ti4200 and any other ti4200 aside from a different kind of cooler which i doubt makes much of a difference.

The albatron g4 ti4200 Turbo is a pure beast. It easily blows away any other g4 ti4200 HANDS DOWN. They put a very good heatsink/fan that will allow you to overclock it PAST g4 ti4600 speeds!!! The card is also uses an 8-layer PCB..the same one ti4600's use. Other ti4200's only have 6-layer PCB. Got to www.newegg.com/ and check it out. I think its like 199 bucks but that with free shipping. Newegg seels a lot of these things so it may be out of stock.(however newegg gets more stuff in really quick so dont worry)
I have also heard good things about the MSI. From what I can tell they overclock very well...however not like the Albatron Turbo...yet the MSI is cheaper than to Albatron...so u must ask yourself what you want more--speed or a little extra cash in your wallet--
Hope I helped!! Have fun buying your new card! :D

well i am going to tell you right now not to get the low end 4200. i have had terrible problems with it. newegg is luckily going to refund me, so i am going to pay an extra 60 bucks and get the leastek 4400 :) unless anyone has something bad to say about it.

BTW I would steer clear of Gainward until your 110% sure they dont have anymore issues.

no life..... i was asking if there was any difference between the ti4200's..... now you're telling me that the msi is a good overclocker? what makes it a better overclocker then the other's.....

Hey man Im just tellin ya what I have heard...and the consensus(from almost every other forum member) seems to be that the MSI is a good overlcocker.
And i WAS comparing the ti4200's....
However the Albatron GeForce 4 Ti4200 Turbo overclocks the best of any ti4200 I know of...yet it costs more.
You can decide.........

Ok then if your not willing to spend 199 dollars go for the MSI. You will sacrifice some speed (by that I mean if you overclock both to their max the Albatron will come out ahead...however they are both the same speed by default) but it will be cheaper. Again its purely your call..I cant persuade you towards either card any further. I just give facts.:)
I'm also thinking of getting the MSI, its out of stock at newegg, but you can get it avlogic.com for the same price once you add shipping, but it will take a little longer to get there.

Don't get the cheapest one which I think is the MSI, but I'm not sure. The Gainward is very good. Especially for overclocking. But so is the Albatron
I know Gainward have had issues with there 64mb ti4200 3.5ns DDr boards, but I have heard nothing but praise for their 128mb cards, I myself have a Gainward golden sample ti4200 128mb and this thing rocks @ 315/600 with stock cooling. If anything look for the added features and software packs that come with the boards, it can oten make your mind up for you when performance/price is near enough the same throughout the range.
Happy shopping! MDA
I have had nothing but great things to say about my MSI Ti4200 stock speeds 250/513, I have oc'd to 305/614 on stock cooling and tell you the truth I haven't gone back to see if I can crank more out of it.. very nice card with a great game bundle..

I'm absolutely satisifed w/ my MSI. I've been able to overclock it to 330/640 without any artifacts or lockups.
It's given me the 3rd highest 3DMark2001se score on the oc3dmark2k1 team here at overclockers.
Bought mine from www.avlogic.com. It's now $133 I think w/ free shipping.

problem is im trying to stay on a budget... i want a card that is somethign like 150 dollars... unless its an outrageously good deal like the albatron turbo for 200

Good air flow through your case, to keep those temps down. Try sticking a 120mm on the side blowing directly onto the card, should help to cool those memory chips. I have about 150cfm of air flowing through the case 2 x 80mm intake 1 x 120mm intake 4 x 80mm exhaust. Noisy, but seeing as I'm using a Delta 7200 on my cpu, there seems no point in trying to keep the noise down!
MDA.
