View Full Version : Windows update Nvidia drivers V3.0.8.7 ?
I'm running Windows XP Home with the Nvidia reference drivers 40.41. Windows Update wants to install V3.0.8.7 Nvidia drivers. I'm hesitant to believe that these could really be newer than the 40.41's since Update is usually doesn't keep up with very recent drivers. Does anyone know which version 3.0.8.7 translates to? 40.xx what?

Already disabled. I'm just used to applying all the updates that appear under Windows Update. This is the first time I noticed something there that MIGHT be older than what I'm already using. There is also a Sound Blaster Live! driver update there but I already have the latest available from Creative's site. You would think Win Update would be smart enough to know when you have a newer version of the driver already on your system.
So are you saying that that version of the Nvidia IS older than 40.41?

Windows update just want to install WHQL certified drivers. I believe the 40.41 are just beta drivers.

This said. I am using the 30.82's. I am hesitant to go to the Det 40's as a result of all the horror stories.
Do you think the 30.87's are better than 30.82's?
I've been using the 40.41's for quite some time without any problems. They increased my 3dMark a few hundred points, just enough to get me over 10,000 for the first time. I say give them a try. You can always go back to an older version if you have problems.

I don't think the 40.41's are still available. The Detonator 40.72's have replaced them. They are what I'm running, and I'm happy with them. Nvidia says they have been submitted for MS for certification. If you're upgrading from 30's to 40's, there is a neat little utility at www.guru3d.com that will make the uninstall/install go smooth as silk.
Hey, I didn't even realize it but my previous post was number 500 !! Hooray for me. He he :)
