View Full Version : simple quick ?
im running windows nt here at work. i wanna setup my screensaver with the password protect, but when i check it isnt there supose to be a password change box? i dont have one. is it my password to log on the network?
I've never used Nt, but in Windows XP, the option that you can check says "prompt for password when cumputer resumes from standby" or something like that. If that's what's on your screen saver thing as well, that's not what that's for. I don't know how to do it in XP because I've never tried and I don't really care about it or need it, but if you need security, the windows key+L should lock the computer and require a password to use.

There may be a policy controlling that function. Alternately, you could CRTL+ALT+DEL and lock computer. Or make a short cut with the following line:
c:\winnt\system32\rundll32.exe user32.dll,LockWorkStation
Drag or copy this shortcut to the taskbar for a single click lock.
its cool i just took the chance and i clicked the box and when the screensaver pulled up it said cant exit screensaver if ur not the account blah blah.... so i just alt ctrl and del and typed in my password for logging in work and it worked. :D

You have used NT.. XP is based on NT Technology, so alot of the stuff you are using in XP is also in NT.
Windows XP is the only OS that has the lock shortcut key CTRL-L, in all other NTbased OS's, you have to do it by CTRL-ALT-DEL, then Enter to lock.
Homer: remember that an administrator can also unlock the system by logging you out (ie: if you lock it and walk away, an administrator can free up the computer by using their username and password, which would log you out, and allow anyone else to log in.
I know that XP is based on the NT kernal, I was just saying that the user interface of NT is not the same as XP so some of the configuration panels and such are not located in the same place as they are in XP. I didn't know that the ctrl + L key combo was XP only, though.
