As you can see by my sig I have 2 Maxtor 80gig 7200 133 striped.
I feel that my hdd's aren't running at their best. In SiSoft, on drive c, my score was only 31766. In Atto, my scores leveled off at around 7150 at 32mb..

I d/l and installed the 2.32 hpt driver and am running the 4.42 via's. The drive is partitioned into 4 partitions..

What can I do to improve performance..

When was the last time you defraged the drive?

I recommend diskeeper lite, best free defrager iv found.

other than the chipset drivers that will make sure that the ide controllers will work properly, there is nothing much left that would make such a big difference in performance.

you can improve disk processes under the OS by installing it in a small partition and keep it defragmented.

Also, make sure you are set to use DMA mode. What version of windows you using? On 2k / XP you can check it in the IDE controller properties in teh device manager.

I have a friend with a Abit KT7a-Raid (Via KT133a) with the built in HPT. He set up a Raid 0 with two 7200 IBM drives and he only gets in about the 29000-30000. He asked me what the deal was and I couldn't answer him.

Thats about as good as what 1 drive can get. Does anyone know why the performance sucks with this setup? I figure they should be getting in the low 40000's at least, shouldn't they?

on my past setup on a kt7a raid i had 2x ibm 40 gigs that scored usually around 41k in sandra- though it is known to NOT be the best hard disk bench utility
