USEABLE fan

thanks:cool:

id say the 50 cfm sunon or 54 cfm mechatronics is the best speed/noise ratio, most here would agree

so you think the delta 68 will still be to loud?

It might not be as loud but I am pretty sure they have a high pitch squeal, which will probably be more annoying than the noise from the fan you are using right now.

they are both 80mm fans
are the deltas louder?

yea the deltas squeal u dont want it. if u dont like the tornado u wont like the delta either, 50cfm should work for u

ok
but do they have one with those fins to clean up the air?
thanks

what u mean one of those fins to clean up the air? a filter? u can buy that sepeartely ... most fans dont come with filters

You could also consider getting the ThermalTake Smart Fan II. It is fully adjustable from about 1500-4800rpm, 20-75cfm (roughly). That way you could adjust it to the max noise level you want to hear.

I hated my delta. the tornado I have no is definatly louder but the delta's high pitch was driving me insane!

you can adjust that yourself?
or is it by heat??

Tipycol

It works by heat, but there is also built in dial that can override that. So the fan can be used either way.

BTW, if you have the SLK-800, a lot of people have gotten bad temps using that fan on it. The fan seems to work best on an AX-7.

get an thermaltake smart fan II 75.7 CFM at 4800 rpm at 48 db

I think at 1800 db solids become liquids or somethin close to that? some food for thought!:P

If the noise is too much, just undervolt it, no need to buy a new fan.

so what fan for the slk-800?

Probably the same fans Lt. Max suggested at the beginning of the post, the 50cfm Sunon or 54cfm mechatronics. You could also go with what JudgeDredd suggests and undervolt your fan, or built a rheostat for your fan, that way you have some control over the noise of the fan.

ok how do i do that??:D

I am not sure about actually doing either, so you can do a search for them. However, if you just want to buy a pre-made rheostat, they sell them here (http://store.yahoo.com/sidewindercomputers/rheosformc.html). They also have a kit where you can build your own.

Argh, save your ears, your wallet and have a high 50ish cfm 80mm fan with the air straightening vanes in about 5 minutes. The 7 volt mod to a tornado is what you really need. You do not need to cut any wires at all. Adjust the fan 4 pin molex. Just get a small pin~needle, or a small screw driver and push the little metal tabs on the molex leads in, pull them out and change the fan's read lead to the other side of the molex and the black lead so its right next to the red lead. Flex the little metal tabs on the leads before you push the leads back in though so they stay in. Hope this helps.

like this?

and that will change it to 7v?

wildfrogman
10-11-02, 10:50 PM
Yes, it should. Basically you get the effect of flipping over the molex and putting it in backwards getting 7v. But having it fit the molex keyed and all. Also when you do that to your fan molex you dont have to worry abut plugging in a normal psu plug to say....a harddrive or such. Also, you can do it to a y-splitter so you can change back and forth 12/7 or even 7/5v but just make sure to tape the molex and lable the voltage on it.

and my ears!!!!!!1

Yeah save those ears, hearing is important. I had to 7 volt my delta 68....not that it was super loud like a tornado but more than my room is small and down stairs. I listen to music and also game very late at night and when you can hear yourself breath any fan is loud let alone a high flow fan that about makes you insane especially if you Fold@home 24/7. Funny how my delta 68 in a normal size room with other computers etc is hardly noticable....actually not annoying at all but in a quite room argh well you know. My ys-tech 60mm 40cfm fan though was ALOT worse high pitch than the delta 68 and got on my nerves even around other computers and such. 7 volted it still performs half way ok though. Anyways goodluck and tell me how it all works out. Performance should still be better 7 volted than a 50cfm sunon fan also.

ok i got my multimeter out and did a little test
and this is what i found

so i have my fan on yellow+ and red-
7v much better!!!!!!!!
thanks for the help all:)

heheh, i think i messed up and got you to 5 volt your fan the way i described it. Heheh, that would really make it quiet. Ohwell good job and sorry for the goof up, doesnt happen to much with me. Oh and if you do use a y-splitter just tape the molex that isnt standard since i have heard horror stories when they get pluged into harddrives and such.

" I think at 1800 db solids become liquids or somethin close to that? some food for thought!:P"

That's why overclockers don't bathe, their fan setups act as utrasonic cleaners.

Seriously though, any reduction in sound will do your ears a favor. The only opinions otherwise have come from people who live near other noise sources (ie cities).

On my agenda is removing one of my HDDs. It's the source of 75% of my case noise.

CPU fan is Panaflo@50%, PSU is Panaflo@50%, the other fans rarely power up at all.

i can now sleep with my 84 cfm fan running at full tilt....but of course, i used to listen to my brothers car stereo a whole lot..and it will play at around 145db..so that prolly damaged my hearing a tad....

the 47 cfm delta is very very manageable...its what i used to use..but wouldnt cool well enough...so i upgraded...its all what you will be doing with the computer..if you use headphones most of the time, then get the loudest you can..cause you cant hear it anyway..and if you turn the computer off at night (people who sleep in the same room as the computer) then get a high speed fan...but if you have normal speakers..dont play them very loud, dont overclock that much...then go for the 47 cfm delta...its a great fan...it made my 1.33 tbred run around 35C all the time..and you all know how hot those mothers are

Could you hear a Tornado in a room next to it while watching TV?

ROFL Ugmore! Thats hilarious.
