By any chance is it possible to fry half of your ram. I have a 256m.b. PC2100 ram. The other night I downloaded the new AA patch. After I tried to play my computer shutdown and treid to restart. So far I've lost a hard drive and my 256mb's show up as 128mmb's.

I believe it's something like getting bad sectors on a HD, As long as the sectors don't relate to critical system use areas you should be able to run just with diminished capacity. But if any progs specify memory ranges in the areas that are toast then your SOL (sh*t outta luck)
I think that's how it works but am not certain. But if a bad register took out the whole stick why would you need memtest?

Look in

and find memtest86. It's a burn-in/ test program that can tell you if any parts of your memory are bad.

How long does it take to finish the test. I stopped it when it hit 5 hours.

I have a 256m pc133 stick that only shows as 128 after melting the stickers on one side off:) cool smell.
It shouldn't take 5 hours, more like 20-30mins. Depends on how much ram you have. i have 512 and took like 20 min. You must have choosen the burn in test.
Doesn't memtest loop until stopped?
