alright.......time to get things started. Jason has both, had computer problems, and this was a holliday weekend, so he's not been available.

In order to start building the site, we need a few things. He wan'ts any pics that would look good for the site. Anyone has something that would look sharp on the OC Clan site, upload them to my ftp. You'll see a section for "incomming" and inside that you'll see "UT Pics".

He's also looking for anyone willing to help build the site. As well as suggestions as to where to put a site. If no other suggestion come, Tripod or Homestead will probably host the site. Anyone good with HTML or Flash is welcome to help design or build the site, and if you wish to contact Jason (Shaggy as he's known here) you can ICQ him at 28501976 (DVDelivery) or email him at jrlevine@airmail.net .

by the end of weekend, we should have a place to call home. =)

also.......would you guys like me to run a permanent server? Either CTF or DM. I could throw a few bots in and change it from CTF to DM as often as you email me and ask.

I have the resources to keep a game of 10 or so going all the time, so gimme some input.

just read what you left me Shadow,,, I totaly agree, i was just saying that i was willing to host and/or put a temp server up if anyone wanted... but thats not the biggest worry right now...along with the site, we need exposure, since as you said this section isnt really hit that much.....maybe a thread in the general section should be requested, at a later point ....id just use tripod or homestead just for the fact that they are there and its one less thing to worry about..i dont know much about building sites so there isnt much i can offer here, but i do have alot of resources at my disposal....so if there is anything that is needed let me know......ill see what i can dig up for pic's...is there any one look that anyone wants for the site?

I'll help with Flash, but maybe in a few weeks, I'm having exams in a week, and now I've got lots of other projects and tests to do. :( stupid school, couldn't make midterms.

20 GB hard drive will upgrade to a 40gb 7200
256 MB can gt it to 512 mb if needed

seems like you're system may be a little too slow for a server. If you had an intel you would have no problem. =)

actually that sounds fine as long as you don't reboot often or lose connection often. The server actually takes up very little space and very little bandwidth, but needs to be steady. I'm going to see what I can do about eventually getting some friends who work on commercial servers to maybe run a UT server for me. For now tho, it's a great place to drop in and get some practice........maybe catch a fellow OC'er on line.....or call some friends up to meet there. Doesn't matter who runs it, just that there's one running. If you wanna host it, great!

by the way my IP sometimes changes but never has my connection gone down or even slowed down ...yet (goes to door and knocks on the wood)

if you can't run a server 24/7 and your IP changes, it would make it very difficult for you to host. It'd really be better if you could leave your machine on.........times would be a real pain.

I will go into 3D studio, photoshop and maybe illustrator to dick around and try to come up with something cool for the website, i will also try hosting a UT server, never done it but it doesn't hurt to try. I've got a DSL connection.

ive had roadrunner for almost 2 years and the only time my ip has changed whas when i moved,, roadrunner leases there ip's as long as your in good standing you keep the ip you got,,,,, kinda nice

I'm pretty good at making web pages, been making pages/graphics fer about 3 years now. ;D I could help with that part.

I dont have the full version of UT yet, or a computer that can play it well, but I HAVE played it a lot...

Maybe we shouldn't stick just to the DM or CTF. There's plenty of good total conversions out there. StrikeForce, Unreal Fortress, Infiltration...

BTW, I have 10megs of free space on my ISPs server for homepage. That address wouldn't change as long as I've this ADSL connection leased. Dunno then if that would be enough for a site... There isn't support for FrontPage extensions, which IMHO is good, so that linuxers can surf too.
I just read their instructions, generally. Seems like it's easy.
I'll whip up a really simple homepage, when I get home.

Any word on a homepage or IP address for the Sanctuary of the Clan? Some of us are champing at the bit to get fraggin'. We're even pretentious enough to change our nicknames to include the coveted [OC]. We may be wankers, but we're proud of our afiliations!

I understand that camping is frowned on, but is it camping if you're using a sniper weapon? After all, snipers tend to sit in one place and wait for their prey. Just wanted to see what everyone thinks about this.

Just tried pinging 24.91.59.174, it says "TTL expired in transit". It's either not up or TOO far. No connect in UT, either.

I just did it from here and i was able to hit my computer...there might have been a problem on the line..ill have to check when i get home..thanks for letting me know

I can ping them just fine. I get about 200ms ping time. When I tried to get on about 2:30am MST, it was just me and some bots.

I dont know what the problem is.It might be my firewall, ive updated it and had some problems, such as not pulling my IP correctly...because of this i have turned off the server for now im supost to be getting another comp this weekend...if and when i do get it,ill put the UT server back up on that one...That is unless someone else wants to host it.

Finally I think I have fixed this piece of junk computer hehe... Shadow came down again and helped me to set it up with Win 2k pro so hopefully its gunna be a more reliable machine. I am ready to start trying to work on this site for us and as stated before by Shadow, I am gunna need some cool UT style graphics and possibly some help with the website design. I have had some great experiences with Homestead as a free webspace host so I think I will go ahead and start there. Please ICQ or Email me with any suggestions that you may have for the site so that I can get some idea of what we (as a clan :) ) want to be ablut. Personally I think that we should be a severly hated clan that talks smack non stop, but thats just me... Shadow is also running a fulltime DM server that we will be setting up with some really cool maps and possibly some new voicepacks that I'm planning on making in the near future. The IP address to the full time server is 208.61.76.82. As soon as we can spend some time getting all of this set up we will be able to start advertising ourselves in the UT world. I look forward to hearing your ideas and comments and hope that we can go out there and KILL EM ALL!!!! Talk to ya soon...

I was starting to wonder what has happened to this Clan project, no news in a few days.

Could the server have Advanced Model Support (http://www.fileplanet.com/dl/dl.asp?/polycount/tools/ut/advancedmodelsupport-101.zip) and the Space Marine 40k v2 model (http://www.fileplanet.com/dl/dl.asp?/polycount/models/ut/utmdl-spacemarine40kv201.zip)? I just love that model.

I can ping the server too, it's average 187.5ms.

Just played one round, sadly lost to bots due to lag... I will learn the map!
UT has ping at about 214.

Anyways, as for a free hosting website, Tripod is good but they dont let you put files on the site, I tried it once and they deleted it.

Geocities is good, but they have that crappy banner on the side, but they do let you store files like zips, but they only allow 15mb space.

DM and CTF sound great to me, because if you start installing all kinds of mods and whatever, people have to download them too and some of them can be big in size like 60+ mb or so. I do suggest installing the latest CSHP mod though, its small and it helps keep the lame cheaters away.

I wasn't mad or nothing :D, I was just excited and thought we had a server going now, but we dont. I have heard there are some people working on one behind the scenes though, so lets keep some hope.

The server recently got the hiccups well mine did that has been running dedicated still working out the kinks, should be back up soon. And then I will let you guys know where to frag around with your UT buddies.
