View Full Version : SETI Comments
I'm no longer the Forums Administrator but i am still an OWNER of OVERCLOCKERS.COM.
What I read in this thread reminds me of playing games in grade school and arguing over who will be the captain..... It's quite disturbing. Some of it seems like another ploy to create turmoil in the overclockers.com camp. Seems these attempts are running rampid lately.....
First to clear up a few points.....
1) The pages were pulled off my server because at the time I was running them on an NT server and could not support PHP which is what was needed for the new site. I could NOT do virtual hosting on the Forums box as we had resource problems and it was not setup for virtual hosting. I CAN do virtual hosting now with PHP and MySQL support so the offer is open again to host. There was no wrong doing or malicious intent which caused the site to be moved. I couldn't provide the needed resources in a timely fashion.
2) I did NOT stop running SETI for these reasons. I've lost numerous relatives to cancer and currently my father is suffering from the effects of late stage, cancer. I just figured Folding is where my un-used CPU cycles should go. My way to help. Currently, I have time to do neither.
That said....
This team IS endorsed and supported (to some extent) by Overclockers.com. You are allowed to use our name, logos and we give you a Forum for the team. Therefore, if this support is to remain, there will be OVERCLOCKERS.COM in the team name in some way. OVERCLOCKERS is a general term and does not relate to the OVERCLOCKERS.COM site in any way. If the TEAM does not want to be associated with us, that's the TEAM'S choice. If so, support can be gotten someplace else also. If it's hurting the Team to be associated with us, maybe it's time that it not be.
No, Joe and I DO NOT come in here and congratulate people for doing a good job. Our way of showing it is by giving you this Forum and allowing open use of our name and logos in Avatars and signatures and the plug at the top of our main page. When these teams were created, it was with the understanding neither Joe or myself had the time to give any personal support.
It would be nice if all of this bickering could cease and the TEAM could be a TEAM again. Like the saying goes, there's no I in TEAM. We can offer a little more support now by being able to offer true "virtual server" hosting. If this is needed, I can be contacted via email at skip@oc-forums.com by an appointed representative of the team. I will create the site and give the passwords to THIS person.
I am not on any one person's side. TC, SpeeDj, Katelin, Cy, Morpheus, Mictlan and many others have put a lot of time and effort into this team. For this, Joe and I are very grateful. I've said some pretty harsh things and they are NOT drirected toward one or more persons. They are general observations and official statements made by myself as an owner of this site.
I want to say that I appreciate your comments Skip. I have high hopes that this team will be able to work through these issues and move forward in coorperation if not fully in friendship. Differences in personality are expected but as adults with a common goal we should be able to work as a team to reach them. :)

I am still wondering what all the bickering was about in the first place......
There it is Ladies and Gentlemen. Straight from the horses (not that you're a horse, Skip!) mouth.
Now can we get back to trying to catch OCUK please?
I'm very pleased to see this statement as well. It clears up a lot of myths I believe.
THANKS Skipper!! :) Let the crunching commence!!!:D

I was giving thought to this one and maybe we can get a consensus about this one.....please go and add your vote to the poll

Ohhh, GOD has said my name :D I'm pleased......but all this work is done (at least the little job I do) without asking for nothing. I'm doing it as I'm a stat freak that needs to get all the numbers I can just for it. I'm doing it as it help support a place I call home, where I have found great friends with whom I have exchanged more than compuetr knoledge, some off them here like Tim, Kris, Ron and Sean......other that as RL moves one changes places and are no longer here like outhouse, lionfish (Rotz-R-Uz), Carl and many others I don't remember their names.
All this people and many others I don't frecuent are what makes this team what it is: a great place to hang out and share some time together.

I did add my vote but the fact remains if the team wants to remain affiliated with us, it will have overclockers.com in the name somehow. If the Team does not want to remain affiliated, that's fine but the support we do give will end. We don't want to support a team that does not want to be affiliated with us. I don't think anyone would want to do that.
Comments have been made that the team is in no way tied to overclockers.com and that the staff or owners don't care about the team. If that's the general feeling, why should we give the "perks" we do like this forum? Why use our disk space and bandwidth?
No, we certainly don't "own" the Team. The team is free to do as they please. Joe nor myself founded the team, it was founded by Daniel~. We just gave the team support by creating a forum and plugging the team on our Homepage. All we ask in return is for the team to show it's affiliation with us by using our sitename. If this affiliation is hurting the team, we can certainly break it.
We enjoy and appreciate the affiliation between the SETI Team and Overclockers.com. However, and I'll say it again, if this affiliation is somehow hurting the team, the team would prefer to be on it's own, or they would prefer being affiliated with someone else, that's the teams choice. Not Joe or Skip's decision. Joe nor myself are going to step in and "lay down the law". All we ask is that the original agreement be upheld in return for the Forum and Front Page plug.
If the Team would like to end this affiliation, I would expect an EMAIL stating this fact to skip@oc-forums.com from the teams leaders. It's not proper to do a silent "walking away" and keep using the resources we provide. We certainly wouldn't close the Forum while still claiming to be affiliated with the team.
Clearly the team does want to remain affiliated with Overclockers.com. The vote seems clear enough. Even in the worst case scenario where someone tries to hijack the team and break away from Overclockers.com I expect that the team would split in two and one faction would wish to continue the affiliation which you so rightly say is in our mutual interest. I appreciate what Overclockers.com has done for us as a team and the great help it's been to me in my quest to go faster! Thanks Skip! ;)

That's what I have been saying all along. As for the distancing, I have had alot of mail comming and going from/to Tim and when we voiced that feeling (when the AOA incident happened a little while ago) it was mean more like "we are not part of the politics of the owners fo OC.com" than "we are not part of the OC.com community". I think, and this is my personal opinion, that both OCSETITeam and OC.com have a synergy worked out. This mean that divided we are both great communities but joined we are even greater than the sum of our parts.
I feel every part a member of the OC.com community (even if don't particiapte much besides this forum) and of OCSETI.

That's what I thought but after reading some of the postings. I wasn't sure.
I just wanted to make it clear that whatever the team decides is OK with us.
