I'm new to this, and I can't seem to overclock.

I have:
Intel D845WN Motherboard
Intel Pentium 4 1.6 GHz Processor

I have read that other people have overclocked this exact same configuration to nearly 2.1 GHz, but I have also read that it is IMPOSSIBLE to overclock Pentium 4s on Intel motherboards.

I have read about hacked BIOS's for overclocking on Intel motherboards, is this safe? And where would I get one?

I am going to be adding two more 80mm case fans and a pci slot fan in the near future, and my processor is currently running at 30 degrees Celsius, and the rest of my computer is about 26 degrees Celsius, so I don't think there will be a problem.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Scott Kennedy

I really need help. I have read through various guides to no avail.

I've never heard of anyone actually being able to overclock using an Intel branded motherboard. They just don't have any of the required options in BIOS or on jumpers. As for hacked BIOS, I've never heard of those, either. Most enthusiasts just tend to steer clear of the Intel boards and go with more versatile ones...

Damn. I was told it was a good idea to spend the extra $150 CDN for the Intel board (although I didn't make the purchase). Next time I'll just build my own computer.

Do you know where I can get such a program?

Also, I am seriously thinking about upgrading the motherboard, but I don't know who makes nich motherboards for overclocking. I have heard good stories about ABIT, but I am not sure.

Abit is an excellent choice for a motherboard that is overclockable. Asus, Chaintech, Soyo, Shuttle are others just to name a few that also have bios's that allow OC'ing. Check out the motherboard section and ask some questions in there. Good luck on your quest for an OC.
