I need some serious juice and after I seen, no Radeon 9700 Pro will cut it.

My friend has his AthlonXP overclocked to 2.01GHz with 1GB of ram and a Radeon9700 Pro and we were playing UT on a server with 40 people and the game became unplayable! I mean, the FPS dropped to a steady 5fps and we couldnt even make out what was really going on. The SADIEST part was we had all the settings in the game set to Normal or high quality.

BTW, for those of you wondering, there is a very high quality setting not to mention a special option in ut2003.ini that allows you to set the texture depth to whatever you want. The sad part about that was we reduced the texture depth to bring up the overall FPS.

I think I'm gonna need an R350 or NV30/NV35 to play this game at full speed.

BTW, I was able to attain 1FPS by having 32 bots and 32 multiplayer opponents in a FRAG FEST. 1FPS!! LOL

Just recently, I found out that Unreal Tournament 2003 requires alot of Fill Rate and a capability of the graphics card to push very high polygon counts.

The programmers of UT2003 were appearently looking for a graphics card with a 400MHz+ VPU clocked with Ram bandwidth exceeding 25GB/s.

I hope the NV30 or R350 will deliver what I need. I LOVE UT2003, this game rulez but with the performance I'm getting now, it makes me sad :(

I wont even talk about how UT2003 runs on my PC :(

You bring up some good points. I dunno if your friend was experiencing some "other" issues (send him our way ;) ) that causes his FPS to be so low, but I know in intense action with my Ti4400 I never drop below 25-30FPS with 2X antialiasing on with high or highest everything...

The next gen of cards will allow for that luxury of having all the bells and whistles on max and get 100fps (like I was with the Ti4400 in the original game). That's all part of evolution and development.

turn off AA / anios and he will be fine i run it at 1280x1024 w/ everything at its max but no aa or anios and it is very smooth...

oh yeah DEF make sure 3d sound is off and just use software sound.

even the nv50 will be a crap graphics card - we just wont know it for a while after...

remember, every pc now, and to come are crap - they just need time to show they are

But me so sad, UT2003 is soo much fun but there is nothing that money really can buy that can get that game going nice with all the sweet eye candy and all the high 60+FPS available.

Hopefully, a highend NV30 will allow UT2003 to play smooth on my PC.

1.47GHz is enough for UT2003 right?

no it isnt. the more mhz the better. the new graphic cards, maily the 9700 are limited by cpu rather than gpu speeds. that is why on the top of the 3dmark charts you see ppl w/ 4ghz p4's whereas with the gf4 they had ppl w/ like 2ghz Athlons and such.

the higher the fsb and the higher the mhz the better.

it looks fine at 1280x1024 for me lol

Hrm sounds like your budy has some other issues. I haven't had any issues running my 1.8ghz xp with my radeon 9700 in ut2003.

I agree, there may be something wrong. I know I've played on servers with 25+ people at 1024X768 with almost all settings maxed, and I have no problems. I'm only using an OCed 8500LE too.

Hopefully we will see cards with 256MB of video ram soon. The less swapping we need to do with textures, the better :)

R350 / NV30 should be good!

BTW, we had the RAdeon9700 Pro at 395MHz Core.

It is just P10 V10 based board. 3D labs was bought by Creative Labs right before this chip started to see the light of day. However, they have made a decision to only use it in workstation class products only. No consumer level gaming boards. I was sad when I heard the news.

I did see some professional bencharks and it topped the TI4600 boards.

These benchmarks where taken with the lowest model P10 board

More benchmarks with the middle level board. They show Nvidia back in the lead due to newer drivers

CHECK YOUR LAN CARD!!!!! Full duplex 2buffered or Gigabit are good choice.30+ player result in high packet throughput!

Im going with everyone else on this....I think he has other issues because with my 9700 im able to play with 32+ ppl and have 60+FPS with highest detail at 1280/1024. I've only been in one situation where I was upset and that was on a dommination map where I only got 30fps.

i think it maybe something other then the card. that is one hell of a set up, and with everything turned up on my 9000 pro UT2k3 plays great. at like 50 fps

I agree although I have not played on a server with more than 20 on yet. I can say that at 1024x768 my 8500LE overclocked to just 275/275 plays fine and at 300/300 It has no problems. I do not play with everything maxxed out cause to tell you the truth with the speed of the game half the eye candy settings are more than enough, but thats just me, sometimes I play at default card settings and all is GOOD

yeah all pc's are crap as one mentioned above it just takes time LOL that made me laugh caus ewe are all buying into the hype more is better uugghhh

Still too slow, what gives?

Well, my friend is trading his crappy KX7 for the the A7N8X next monday, we'll see how that does with two sticks of PC3500 Corsair memory.

Boy, that PC3500 stuff is expensive, it better pay off.

Avoid kt-400 ! They ARE slower than KT-333!

Also, I have A7n8X and i does support only one 400 module with.. CL 3

This A7N8X is retail, is yours? If you cant do two sticks of high speed 433MHz+ memory then you dont have an nForce2 motherboard.

nForce2 requires two sticks to even function in 128-bit memory mode.

This board is going for $239 at best so I think its time to see just how fast this thing is.

Its definetly NOT your video, i mean hardware like that you should have evrerything maxed, if sometimes tells you otherwise, smack em', lol. it sounds like a bandwidth problem to me

Im tellin different things....
A7N8X is NvIdIa based.
A7V8X is Via KT-400 based.
http://www.asus.com.tw/inside/a7v8x.htm
ALL 400DDR Modules have CL3, ´cause at CL2 they are VERY unstable.

You specifically said you have the A7N8X motherboard. What are you talking about. Also, I know to stay clear of the KT400, hence the KT400A is coming out soon which will be the competition for the nForce2.

Although, Twin Bank DDR Ownz.

Uhh...I'm pretty sure Nforce2 mobos aren't out yet...how can you have a mobo that hasn't yet been released?
