View Full Version : pc2100 Ram..and a 1/4 divider...what can I do??
Ok well...I have the Asus A7V-266E..
yes, thats 266...
It can only handle pc2100(says the box and the website)
I have 1 512 kingston valueram chip pc2100..
I am at 162x10.5 so everything is running at 324mhz and my cpu is at 1701mhz, and my pci bus is running at 41 ?mhz?(162fsb/41pci)
I dont think it is my ram that is stopping me..I think its my pci bus because I have the 1/4 divider
Is there ANYTHING I can do besides buy new equipment??
I can boot into the 162/41, but at 165/41 it wont boot...
Idle temps for 162/41 are 43-44C
If I take it down to 161/40, it is about 41-42C idle
at 162/41 I have ran mad onion 2001SE and got my highest score ever :)

i've never heard of obtaining a PCI divider that isn't available on the board, but if anyone knows, this is the place to find out...
most likely, if there is a way, it probably involves some heavy soldering, or else everyone would be adding dividers

The only way you'll know if your PCI bus is holding you back, is by removing all the PCI components. Including disabling onboard. Try for the next highest setting, making sure DIMM voltage is around 2.8 or 2.9...
If you end up with nothing, try relaxing memory timings some, if not completly.
There are a few things to look at in your case:
1) You have RAM only rated for 133 MHz (266DDR), & and it's a branding not generally associated with high overclocks. So, with your RAM at 162 (presuming it's 1:1) I think it's a good o/c for what it is, and probably at it's limit.
2) BIOS update may give you some stability in order to sqeeze a couple more MHz out. Try different releases...you may be surprised.
3) You do have the KT266, and it's not a stong overclocking board for starters....you may be pushing your board close to it's limit.
4) Gotta' pay to play. Speed costs money- how fast do you want to go?
I believe a few more MHz may be left, but nothing more to add a significant boost to your 'over all computing experiance;)'. To get what you might be looking for, new hardware may be in order. I personally would wait till next year if you consider upgrading. Alot of new things will be out- hopefully this includes K8 Athlon...After all, compared to OEM's and some other individual's, your computer isn't really 'slow' and 'outdated'....

True...I am happy with my system, I have it at 1.7ghz..I was gonna wait for a new pci/agp bus to come out..I guess I can just start working on the file server now..and my play system later..thanks!
