4200, 4400, 4600... I'm confused.

I've found a really good deal on a Geforce4 Ti4200 ($109), but before I buy it, I want to know how well it fares compared to the 4400 and 4600, or even the Geforce3 for that matter.

Well the 4200 is just a cheap version of the other two cards ( 4400 and 4600 ). It has the same features but its slower. Best deal in my opinion. I would never buy a 4600. Go for the 4200 definetely. Its better then a geforce3. Or buy a radeon 8500LE. They are even cheaper then the geforce4 4200 and perform almost the same. I got a Radeon 8500LE 128MB for $99 at CompUSA. Your call bud...

I know the difference among the 4200, 4400, and 4600 is just a matter of core and memory speeds, but how they stack up against the G3s I'm not sure. I think it has to do with pixel shader technology advancement.

Ti4600 aint such a bad deal anymore - if you can afford it, it is worth it.
Ti4200 has more support for newer features in modern games and runs faster than a GF3.

VGA, DVI, and TV-out for $109. Hard to beat that.

check out the products from Asus or MSI 128MB i believe unlike other ti4200 128 mb cards Asus and MSI ships their's with same memory clock speed as the 64mb one's, normally ti4200 have faster memory than the ti4200 128 card. But Asus and MSI have clocked both their cards at the same speed, that means extra speed plus good amount of memory :)

I am certain about the Asus one and i have read about the MSI one two or three places you may want to check it out.. :)

From what I have read if you plan to get a Ti series card the best bang for the buck is the Ti4400, MSI is a good one to consider. Reason being is it comes with BGA memory , the Ti4200 does not.

The 4400 has more memory bandwidth, fill rate and a larger setup engine. Whatever you choose the Ti4200 or 4400 are both great cards , I am not sure of how much more a 4400 would cost over the deal you found. Either way get a 128 DDR card. Also as Slayn mentioned the 8500LE is a damn good card as well and slightly cheaper.

I stand corrected although I referred to the Ti4200 not the newest version of the Turbo Ti4200 which does add a pretty penny on top of the price he found of $109.

After reading the review b/w the 3 Ti cards I stand to be corrected although I made comments based on users own opinions, those that own the 4400 thinking that for the few extra $$ more it was a better buy than the Ti4200. For the extra features it offers for video performance I can understand the pick.

However if I were to buy a Ti card iut wopuld be the cheapest 4200 I could find!!!!

Plus, right now my Ti4200 is at 300/650 .. the ram will do 690 as is, with a little modding, i'm sure I could get 320/700 stable... well worth the $200 in my opinion :)

I'm asking cause I don't know...have they got the drivers for the 8500LE hammered out yet, I've heard there have been some problems with the 9500 & 9700 drivers.
I left ATI over driver issues, but if they've gotten better I'd be willing to give them another try. (Got a server in the construction phase and am looking at middle of the road cards that balance features with price)

I'll bet you $1,000,000 american greenbacks that the card you saw for $109 was the 64Meg version. Still not a bad card, and still more RAM than most people I know. All games will run well, most will max out. But it isn't the one in the chart.

i'm beginning to regard ATI as a bargain brand, that makes fast hardware that have compatibility (aka driver) issues.

Both stock, the 4200 performs only slightly better than a GF3 TI 500. But the 4200 can overclock much better than a TI 500. Just grab that $109 4200 thats a great deal.

The 64mb and 128mb cards are two different creatures. The 64mb card actually comes with faster memory than the 128mb. The 64mb is good if you plan on upgrading in a year or two anyway. The 128mb is a good investment if you want something that will last when newer games come out that actually make use of 128mb video memory. So I wouldn't doubt if the 64mb card was at least a little better than a Ti500.

The one I'm getting has 64MB of RAM. Great plenty for what I do, especially since my monitor won't display higher than 1024x768 resolution.

I looked again and couldn't tell for sure if the $109 card had a DVI connector. I found one that had DVI as well as an adapter to convert it to VGA. That one cost $120.
