Good question....the thermaltake seems to be pretty high on the heatsink ratings, though it has a pretty loud fan. I doubt the Zalman is much better even with a high CFM fan.
i have the volcano 7+....mediocre at best. The fans too loud for me at the high setting

my volcano 7+ works well.
id say toss both and get an alpha pal 8942 with a low cfm fan. lovely.
I have a idea :D
Volcano, SilverArctic3... and fan from Zalman ;) hehe

I too have the TT V7+. I agree with the others when they say the fan is quite loud while on high. But, since I cannot afford to go with water just yet, its something that I can put up with for now. Temps have been plenty cool with it.

How about the AVC 117140 - http://www.frostytech.com/articleview.cfm?articleid=946&page=1 or the Coolermaster IHC-H71 - http://www.frostytech.com/articleview.cfm?articleid=1133&page=5
Although some users have reported faulty soldering between the base and the fin assembly, my (very recent) AX-478 is fine. It destroys the V7+ in cooling performance. I had the V7+, and went back to the retail cooler until I found something that was actually better. The AX-478 is.
The fan on the V7+ is obnoxiously loud. Set the the medium setting, it is still loud. On medium my retail cooler gave equal temps (45C max), and when I set the V7+ to low (to where I could finally stand the noise) the retail did better. The AX-478 with a mere 2850 rpm, 37cfm 80mm fan on top drops the max temp to 40C. While idle temps are meaningless, they dropped all the way to 33C with the AX-478. If you fit a stronger fan that is as loud as the V7+, further reductions of 5-10C are possible from the numbers mine produces with the mild fan.
All the above was done with a 1.6a at 2400MHz running 1.6V Vcore on a P4S533 (being an Asus reports on the high side of accurate).

I have used them all,
Stock, Dragon Orb 478, Volcano 7+, PAL8942, MCX478, AX478 and the MCX4000, by far the MCX4000 was the best in my experience.

How about the Vantec Aeroflow. Overclockers.com gave it a 0.30 c/w rating. Similar range as the Volcano 7+, but quieter...
