View Full Version : Athlon TBird @ 750Mhz DDR support...
Well, heres the situation, i sold a gf3 ti500 (The compugeeks one) to a friend and his crappy biostar mobo aint compatible LOL :D . We tried everything, psu, ram, hd and it would still lock the computer in bios!!!
Well my friend is on a VERY tight budget, but he asked for my opinion and i say theres no real point on upgrading to a better mobo if he will stick with crap sdram. So hes now looking for money even under the rocks to afford a ddr mobo setup, he will keep his 750MHz Athlon TBird.
So is there any chance that an Abit KX7-333 along with a pc2100 stick (VERY BEST BANG FOR THE BUCK, but not generic) will work with his old CPU???
P.S.: And pls forget about "tell him to save more and get an athlonxp 1600", hes really on a very tight budget, same as me, hes a student and his dad aint willing to fork out more money that the real essential. But we both think hell get a better cpu whenever possible...

hmm 750 Athlon is a slot processor... unless you can find someway for a slot to fit on a socket.....

There was also a socket 'A' version...and the Duron obviously was available at the time with the same core.
The best bang for the buck would be an ECSŪ, based on the SiS 735. ECS K7S5A (http://www.newegg.com/app/viewproduct.asp?description=13-135-102&DEPA=1). I havn't had any experiance personally with this board, but it does bench close to a KT266a. A lot of people have this board, and are happy with it...The main reason I brought this board up, is because of the ability to support either SDR or DDR. A board like this would probably be great for a tight budget. $53.

yea... no real point in getting a kt333 if you're putting pc2100 ram in it... i'm also assuming your friend isn't overclocking, so ECS looks like a good choice

Get the ECS K7S5A bottom line.Unless you can find a better board for the same price get the ECS board.Dirt cheap and rock solid.I own two of them and two of my friends have it.
thnx for your replies ppl, yeah his cpu is a socket one, so i dont think there will be a problem. I guess ill have to tell him that its almost the same cost on buying an overclockable abit setup than a crap sis one, hes definitely getting ddr pc21000. Maybe that crucial one you mention :D . I guess ill just have to make a little pressure so he gets money for a nice heatsink and we are all set...

Any TBird or Spitfire CPU will work in any socket A board. They're all backwards compatible.
K7S5A is a good board especially since he can use his PC133 for now and PC2100 later.

I don't like the ECS board very much...had some bad experiences with it (dead board, dying boards, etc.). When I need cheap stability, I go for gigabyte offerings like the board in my backup machine.
