How would a single P4-2.8G, 1GHz ram, scsi drive system compare with a dual MP2000-2100+ setup (with same peripherals) for a web server running postnuke / mysql? NOT starting a WAR -- a real choice I am facing.

no question the dual will handle that load much better than the p4 will
im pretty sure mySQL is multithreaded (its linux so id assume so) and running a high user database needs both fast processors and lots of fast ram.

the dualies will run circles around the p4 no question about it...and I also believe mySQL is multithread so that means both your processors will be running the program which means MORE speed!!!:D

Remember this is what dualies are MADE for...servers...why do you think their motherboards are listed under "server-motherboards" :p...this is what every MP processor dreams about...SERVER BABY!!! :D

Definitely go dual, whether it's some Prestonias or some Athlons. Server apps will bring a single CPU system to its knees. We have machines here at my work which are 3+ years old running Oracle better than most P4 systems could, simply because they're set up with the right hardware.
