'Sup all

Got a ATX power supply and I want to hook it up in tandem with my current supply for more cooling fans, but the power supply fan has become blocked by dust or summin'. It still turns but very sluggish. What (easliy availible) household product can I use to clean it? It seems to be the bearings.

Many thanks

canned air. You should be able to get a can of compressed air from an electronics supplier. It is not really air, but some kind of rapidly expanding gas. I really do not know what resources you have available, but you could get creative and try to fashion bellows or maybe a bicycle pump.

Definitely get the dust out. The bearings may be shot and it could be time for a new fan. You might try pealing the sticker off the fan and removing the plug so you can put a couple of drops of machine oil on the bearings. I prefer a real light oil such as Dritz sewing machine oil.

I just took a vacuum cleaner, and kind of vacuumed the dust from the PSU using that fan hole.

Thats probably the best thing. Because with canned air you just blow the dust every where else. But the vacuum sucks it up. But I use canned air. ;)

I use an air comperssor. I like to blast my fans every now and then. I take them out of the case, run them down stairs to my air comperssor and give them a few quick bursts of air. That cleans them up fast and easly. I'v found that canned air dosn't have enough punch to get off dust that is caked on the fins. It endsu up taking the whole can to get all the dust.

Now if I could find somethig for my dremel tool ?? !!!!!
