172 Watt Peltier Amperages?

I recently bought a Drift 172 Watt (24.6Volt, 11.3 Amp) Peltier. Powering at 16.75 Volt (66% Vmax) I am only getting a current of 6 Amp(50% Imax).Is this normal?
I was hoping for a current of 66% Imax. and hence a cooling power of 66% Qmax. The peltier is under a 50 Watt(ish) maximum load (Celeron@1000 and 2.2V) and this 6 Amp current changes little with CPU load.
Any observations please?

Then why do mine draw 19 amps at 20 volts (that's two pelts)?

completly wrong I'm affraid. the equation you should use to calc the amps is V=IxR.
your need to work out the peltiers resistance by dividing the Vmax by the Imax. Once you have the resistance you can work out the amps you will draw at any given voltage.

This is a simplification because the pelt resistance is not fixed but it's close enough for our purposes.

In answer to the original post 6 amps sounds about right considering the voltage.
