apply thermal paste

i want to know when i apply thermal paste to the heat sink base,i need to apply to all the base or just the place where the cpu core will contact?

what i do is place a small amount on the bottom of the hs itself and spread it all over. fully cover the base of the hs. then i wipe it all down and it leaves me with a thin film. almost a haze. then i apply a small dab on the cpu and spread that very thin. if this does not appease you then check this.
