alright...think of it this way...how many points were some of the top cards on 3dmark 2000 getting when 2001 came out..prolly around 15k-20k...so, would this kinda stay the same way...i think they will be making a new bench...and the 9700's will be getting around 5k..which it about what the top cards were getting when 2001 came out

i think they should just keep the same scoring system. If they were to change it, it would ruin all current benchies and everyone would be confused

If we were using that logic we would still be using 3dmark 2000.

hmm just imagine in 5 years people will be able to say haha you only got 15000 3dmarks... i think it will become nescicairy to upgrade the engine when dx9 comes out... not when new cards...
3dmark2000 was based on dx7 2001 was for dx8.0/1 now 3dmark2002 should be for dx9...

Just like any other software company, they are working on a new/updated version of their software. There is no way around this. You must have an up to date benchmark for newer GPUs, or you will never be able to test out the newer functionality of them.

There are specific tests for the following 2 examples, but these test didn't exsist in earlier version of 3D mark.

Pixel Shader test
Vertex Shader test

Who knows what features will be added into newer GPUs/VPUs that will need to be benched/tested.

In 3DMark 2001 the Voodoo 5 sucks because it lacks the directX 8 technology. When DirectX9 hits then expect a new benchmark from Madonion, but I wouldnt expect it any sooner. The current one is sufficient for now.
