View Full Version : Temps for my 1.33 GHz T-bird

I was just curious if these are decent temps for my processor, I get about 41*C idle and 45*C load (after looping 3DMark for 90 min) and that's the highest I ever see my CPU temps get. BTW, I use VIA Hardware monitor for temps, and I have a ThermoSonic ThermoEngine HS with the stock fan, and not the one that comes with a Delta (too much for my ears :D ) I also use AS3.
okay, this was kind of a fragmented post, but if you could give your thoughts...

Not bad at all.

my T-birds 1.33ghz temp on idle is 55c and load 63c.i am using cooler master heat pipe hhc-001 with a 7000rpm fan and cooler master thermal paste.i am living in a tropical country with temp around 26c-29c
Depends on if this is running stock or overclocked. If it is stock, I would say it is a little high. My 1.33 at 1.85V running 1530 is 46load and 39idle with a swiftech mcxc370. At stock speeds it is 39load and 34idle

no not at all, I live in Minnesota but my house is usually about 70*F..... :(
these are just average temps, depending on how the house is, it can get down to about 35*C for idle and about 37*C for load. It never really gets warmer than I previous listed. My heatsink isn't the greatest either, I was considering switching, but I'm going to watercooling soon anyhow, so it didn't seem to make that big of a deal...
I am running stock, and when I overclock to about 1.533 it tends to hang around 50*C for both idle and load....

My t-bird 1.33ghz running at stock speed (1333 mhz) runs at 53 idle and 57-58 load, no problems yet. I used crappy thermal paste when I installed the cpu so I think this is part of the problem.

What kind of HS/F are you using?
an unlapped Volcano 2, has a 60mm 5000 rpm fan on it.

I'm at 1506mhz (150fsb, 1.85v). Mine runs at 35C and 36C load.
Spir@l block with BIX and ambient temp of 29C

That's kinda why I want to switch to water cooling, that and less noise:D
would I benefit more with overclocking and watercooling if I switched to an Athlon XP? I know t-birds don't have much history gettin over 1.6 GHz.....just curious...

theres nothing wrong with thouse temps... unless your gona overclock... u might want it at around 35ish (or lower ofcource)

Athlon XP's run cooler, and if you get an AGOIA stepping, they overclock a LONG ways.

Thanks for the info, I think I'll switch to an XP before or around when I get my water cooling...and do the processors with AGOIA stepping cost much more than the normal?

Nope... the agoia stepping costs the same. You may have to do a bit of calling around to see if anyone has one, though. Most places don't differentiate between steppings when selling them. Try to get an AGOIA "Y" (you should find lots of info on these if you search the forums for Agoia. These will be available for 1600XP to 2100XP. They'll hit anything from 1700mhz to 2ghz.
Also, make sure your board supports athlon XP's first, and go for DDR. DDR overclocks better than sdram. It's also available up to pc3200, which should work at 200FSB. Do research on ram before buying, and always check the rating of your seller at www.resellerratings.com first! If you go to a new board, look for a KT333 board with a 1/5 PCI divisor. (Then you can run 166fsb with all your PCI cards in spec.) A good example of a board like this is the epox 8K3A. KT400 boards just aren't quite up to par yet. (They don't have the 1/6 pci divisor, and AMD can really only use memory running at the same fsb as the processor. Any more memory bandwidth is useless.)
OK, I know that's a lot of info to digest, but it's all very useful.

mine runs at 52c full load. all fans running @ high speed, a bit too high for me if u ask. that's oc'd btw at 1.82v.

Well what I have now is only 512 MB of DDR pc2100 for memory and I have an Abit KG-7, which says it doens't support Athlon XP's without a BIOS update, but I have tried an Athlon XP 1800 in it before, and it worked without a problem, would there be any side-effects to using this motherboad? Only problem with getting a new one is that I'm not exactly rich :(
The memory that I'm using now just happens to be cheap generic stuff, but I've always planned to switch it with some corsair as soon as I have the cash to spend on that sort of thing. I have overclocked on this setup before but only reached 1.533 GHz stable, when I get up to 1.6 GHz it will post but not start up windows.

well before mine fried on the failed WC install - I used a Mecatronics (I believe) fan with the AX-7, AS2 compound and I had about 8 case fans (come to think of it, I should have gotten off a few snap shots before I switched to WC and switched Cases ... but I digress - back to the temps!)
so let's see I believe I was about 38ºidle on average - and during that hot week about 2 weeks ago (90-95ºF) the house without AC was very warm (maybe 80-85ºF) thus increasing the ambient temperature and my idle went to 45º!
Oh and I was barely OC'd I think something like 1333->1450? (damnit, should have saved my former sig) :D

1.533ghz corresponds to 146 fsb, so your board will hit at least that, and unlocking an xp will allow you to hit 12.5, so that's 1825mhz. AGOIA's usually reach their max between 1700 and 1900, so that board wil not be a problem in getting a massive overclock. And the latest bios update supports up to the 2100XP, so that's not an issue. It's quite possible that you already have the updated bios on your board... check to see if there's any info on it during post and compare that to the abit website.
Now if you are looking for AGOIA's, they are offered at
http://www.heatsinkstore.com/agoia.html
Then again, there's newegg.com with an almost perfect resellerrating, and 90% of the people who buy there get AGOIA's or AROIA's. They're cheaper, too. The bad news is that there's a 10% chance that you'll get something else that craps out around 1500mhz.
