View Full Version : first duct experiment LMAO
i just made a duct in 5 mins from a pringles tube and a fan ! just to see if ducting wud actually give my system anything as i constantley leave both sides of the case off !!! temps for cpu now read 34idle, instead of 42 :D tomoro i will get some alliminium and make a proper one ! wud using a thick tube of ally be better as im thinking it will be colder and therefor cool the air more

OMG!!! i never thought of using a pringles can! i have a ton of those :)
i think the pringles can would do better then a metal duct becase the metal will heat up eventually causing the air to heat up as well. cardboard wouldn't transfer heat as good so i think it would provide cooler air in the long run.
but thermal dynamics isn't my strong pont. anyone with more expirence on this care to comment?
i was thinking of having an ally duct with a casing made of ally around the duct containing water, if ya know what i mean, what do u think of that idea ?

is this what your talking about?

i got mad paint skillz :D
that would keep the duct cooler for a little while but the water would heat up too unless you have the water circulating.
i would rather go to a full watercooling setup instead of using a water cooled duct. i think it would be easier too.

Yeah I dont think having water around the duct would do anything....what type of material the duct is made of probably wont make much of a difference if you have reasonable case circulation. Since the duct is not producing any heat itself, it will always end up at some average (around ambient) temperature regardless of its material (even if there is water around it). So, either way should work!
im just trying to think of ways to cool the air thru the duct as i dont want to have to try n get my room temps to 10degrees lol. but then id start gettin condensation probs anyway and that wouls suck, i been thinkin bout pelts for awhile anyway so mite just go for that, scary **** tho as i know id make a mess of the insulation n blow stuff up : / aaaaaah its hard when ur me !!!!! lol

Hey, my first duct was made from packing tape and the cardboard box top from some WD hard drive. Worked real good though! :)

would the brown card board of a finished roll of toilet paper work?

Might be a little restricting, something the same diameter of the fan being used is about the best thing to do.

simple laws of physics or something,
energy cannot be produced or destroyed, it only changes form
so in other words, heat(a form of energy)is either there or not, having water inside the tube only ads heat to the water and leaks on you brand new $400 video card :D, just make the aluminum one if you want it to look less crappy, i doesnt matter what material its made of
hope this makes any sense/helps!:D:D
