I'm gonna give up overclcoking!

Dang it!! My new rig is wasted! My 2.8 is crashing my rig. I get lock up city when i play any game! I tested the RAM with ramexam and it passed. I tested my cpu with a bootable DOS hardware tester and my proc failed. I tested it at 155fsb...failure. I tested it at 133fsb...failure. I even unddid the dipswitch trick...failure. I can't even keep my desktop going very long before I have to get a new chip. I think my Vapo is killing these chips with condensation. The last dead proc had water droplets underneath the chip in the middle of the ziff sockett.

My solution:
New mobo - P4PE
New Chip - 2.8
New case - Air cooling

I feel like crap!!!

I will your pain, I kill an amd chip trying to unlock it and burn my r8500 with volt mods, take it easy, I now does extreme cooling have its dangers, but life must go on,
why don't you keep water cooling but without going so extreme with vapor...

wow 2.8 chip is an expensive paperweight. what kind of temps did you chill it to? Did you have it at -11 constantly or did u try to go lower?

what is the limit we should cool our p4s to before they die?

hay, why dont you try water cooling??? it seems to be a lot safer then the vapo.

it was easy for me...and I'm dumb.

Yeah, just as I suspected. I pulled my rig apart and scoped out the cpu. Guess what? It had condensation on it! I ain't gonna put anymore P4's in my Vapo. I am gonna box it up and put it in the garage until the clawhammers come out. Then we will see what happens. I may just pour gas on it and burn it in the back yard like I was gonna last time! he he I am gonna get me one of those pre-modded cases (window) and just use air cooling.

Do you think my proc will still work? I cleaned it up real good.

Oh well...off to newegg...right now!

No it was at 7-8c 24/7. The evaporator gets -11c not the chip. It was just condensation on the chip is all.

@Krag: Sorry to hear that bro, tell me something, did you have that piece of foam underneath your chip? .. that "should" take care of any chip condensation!

Yeah I did have te little square piece in the ziff hole, one on back of mobo and the one thats on top of the chip. I also had both of my heating elements running to. I am really tired of getting VAPO'ED.

Yeah bro, you're right. The phase change lust would eventually overtake me. Then I would be kicking my self for selling it. I think I will use it for a future AMD. That is if they are around in the future. he he

hey krag did u try using ur intel HSF to test if ur chip is still ok? i got a 2.8 CPU i need to get rid of. it does 3GHz prime stable at default voltage. all on an alpha and 32cfm fan. PM me if ur interested....im still waiting on a deal about a 3GHz HT ES chip but i dunno if its gonna go through, but if it does its gonna cost me a lot of money..... the CPU is fine and working great.
