Hey guys, how's it going?
Well, I'm trying to get good cooling into my new Athlon XP system..

Here are the specs:

AMD Athlon XP 2200+
Artic Cooling Super Silent Pro TC | http://www.heatsinkstore.com/arcoolsupsil.html
Pioneer 16x DVD-ROM
Floppy Drive
40 Gig Seagate 7200 RPM IDE
Asus VIA A7V333 KT333 Chipset ATX Motherboard Retail Boxed
NIC Card
256 MB RAM
Sound Card and Speakers
GeForce 3 Ti 500

Now, I'm concerned about the case...I'm thinking of getting an Antec SX840 (400 Watt Power Supply) with fans, 2 in and 2 out.. I'm thinking of using these fans..
http://store.yahoo.com/svcompucycle/8027cfm210db.html
And I'll replace the 2 in the Antec. Or, can anyone tell me a similar or better case but without the fans or such... I would prefer a silent system instead of a screaming monster.. And is this enough cooling if I were to use this?

Thanks,
David

I'd like to know how well that cooler's going to work for you. I was considering it myself. Those Vantec Stealth fans are good for case fans. I recommend against getting the Antec SX840 and instead go for a full tower version of either an Antec or Chieftec since they will cool easier and they're about the same price as the SX840. If you're looking for quiet, you may want to give some consideration to the power supply you'll be using. One option is to buy a case with a power supply already in it and just go with that. The other is to buy a case without a power supply and pick a quiet one. This is what I've done. I ordered a 10bay Chieftec for $57 shipped and an Antec TruPower 430w power supply.

Alright thanks for the help man.

Anyone else?

Well, one problem...are you sure I can't stick to the SX840? I really don't want to blow big bucks just for some extra space..
I have a budget..

And should a 300w power supply be enough? Or should I go with 400w?

For $85 shipped from NewEgg you get an easier cooling case with a decent 420w power supply. Hard to beat that deal and there's no way I'd go with the 300w power supply for your set-up.

One question, but with that link you've supplied me with, is the power supply in there just as good as the TruPower? Just wondering...

The Vantec stealths are nice, but you might want a couple with a little more juice. Unless noise is a big concern....

Mustard, how about 4 of these?
2 in and 2 out?

That 420w power supply is a renamed Sparkle or Channelwell and apparently will regulate its fan speed in an attempt to keep the fans more quiet when your system's not so hot (just as the Antec PSU does). It's definitely adequate for your system and appears to be comparable to the Antec. Although I actually chose to buy the Antec PSU before I found this great deal at NewEgg.com, I still probably would have bought the Antec PSU since I bought it at NewEgg as a refurb for about $55 shipped. I 'm actually quite surprised to find the 420w is not a cheapo. Go for it unless you want to spend the $ for the Antec. And, if you do the Antec TruPower 380w would likely do you as well as the 430w since it appears you're not planning to O/C.

Edit: that might not be the exact same model in that link as you'll get with from NewEgg since it appears in that link that PSU only has 1 fan where the 420w I think has 2 fans.

those would be ok if you like variable speed fans..... I personally dont. I like the Zalman F1 fans. They run at 3000 rpm pushin 39cfm. They also include a resistor that can be plugged in and make the fun run at a lower speed. Also, the sunon 39 cfm fans are nice too ;)

Thanks much guys...

Maybe when I get a little more experienced in modding then I'll add a window...
Still think the processor fan is good? I'm a little worried about that.

And, 3 or 4 pin fans?
This is my first time really getting into it and building my first comp. I know alot about comps, but this is the first time I've actually done it.

I'm going to hope that this hs will suffice.

I'm not planning to overclock yet, but when I do, I'll most likely be getting better fans and heatsinks.

Thanks for all the help guys.

The fan for the Artic Cooling HS is no problem. As is, that HSF will work satisfactorily provided you're not going to O/C. With the Chieftec case, 5 quiet case fans total and your room temp below 30C, I'm esitmating your idle and load temps would be anywhere between 10C and 25C above room temp. I see this as an acceptable trade off of low noise for higher temps.

To further quiet your system, you may even want to pick up 2 or 3 of these, 2 for your rear exhaust and 1 to replace your door fan:
http://store.yahoo.com/svcompucycle/80nmb253pinf.html. I suggest these since they're more quiet than the Vantec Stealth fans and since there's no telling at what temp the Artic Cooler fans would fire up to over 30db since they're temp controlled. You may even want to go with all 5 of these ultra-quiet case fans at only $2.50 each.

Some fans only come with 3 pin connectors attached and others come with 3 pins and a 3 to 4 pin adapter. So, you may need to order some 3 to 4 pin adapters.

Well, now I'm considering to overclock a P4 system... I've heard that P4's are much better to overclock. I'm actually getting quite interested in this stuff. I'm going to look around for some P4 items..
