If my cpu is locked, am I correct in thinking that I can change the FSB but not the multiple? As lomg as I can change the fsb i'm satisfied.

u can do that

ACTUALLY!!! it depends on if you have a motherboard that allows you to change the FSB. Dell and gateway, along with others do not allow you to change this...since you didn't have a signature with your system, I thought I might throw that out

You can, but only if your bios will let you. Many retail (gateway, dell, hp etc.) won't let you change much in the bios.

soft fsb doesnt work or any other windows overclocking programs with dells..ive tried it on a few of mine..crashed immediately..and i mean upping it to 134 or 101 fsb (depending on the chip i had)

i got a 200mmx gateway as my backup and ive tried about everything to oc the thing! nutten works except a new mobo.but if i go that far i might as well upgrade the cpu, memory, hdd's,case oh well u get the point :)

Well I have an A7V333, so good. I wanna do some fsb pumping

overbussing (fsb overclocking), lets u enjoy more gains rather than upping the multiplier alone. sum unlock their procs so they kud set down the multiplier if they want to get to higher fsb's.

also to add, u better up that vcore or you wont get much extra fsb with a locked chip.every fsb =xtra mhz and more demand on the chip. this is why we like to unlock
unless u have a killer stepping 1600 those do ok with not much added vcore

Ok. ...So my xp1600 chip remains unlocked and I can change Multiplier and fsb in bios. So basicallly i can change the FSB but not the Multiplier, is that correct? However I had to set the Multiplier and fsb manually when i installed the chip so could I not have bumped the multiplier up a notch or 2?
2nd: As long as I have my voltages set at "auto" then I should not have probs O/Cing FSB, correct?
I used to O/C my t-bird 1.4(1.65) no prob w/ multiplier and FSB, but w/ my new xp chip I cannot afford to buy a new chip if i mess up.
BTW, crushed the core on the t-bird w/ my HS:eh?:
look at my primary rig, i played it safe and didnt unlock, but i have a good oc still. if you wan to overclock a locked chip its VERY important to check you have a good stepping, mine is the best along with aroia y  , also you will have to up the vcore, mine is default. The only drawback is that you gotta have good memory, my crap memory is holding me back, right now im saving for a corsair xms 512mb pc3000, the most my mobo can handle because of memory dividers.

My 1600 is an AGOIA F 0212. Memory is 512 mb Samsung PC2700
I'd be plenty satisfied with the 1743 mhz I would get from 166 fsb x 10.5 mult.

You can proably get 166 fsb x 10.5 mult. providing you have good cooling, what do you have in the way of HSF

1st no you cant up your multi - actually when setting manually all you are adjusting is the FSB when its locked.
2nd Correct but you wont maximise its potential

I have a Swiftech MCX462+ with a TT SF2.
I'm going to a computer show and I might get a case with only one window so I can get sound insulation, which would allow me to get a better, but louder fan, maybe. Something that's direct flow.
Anyway, 166 shouldn't be hard.
