OH MY GOD!!! This is makeing me mad!

Okay, hey guys whatsup? I'm trying to overclock my northwood P4 1.8... umm.. nto doin too good...

okay at normal 1.8G it works jus dandy.. then.. if i up the fsb even like 1 megahertz.. if i try to play any game it just freezes after abotu like 50 seconds!!! whatsit mean? i check the temps and its goin up to around 45-46... and if i do the stress test it does perfectly fine untill i try to do a memory test.. thats a ram test right now video card memory?? But yeah ... um.. what does this mean? waht shoul di do!? :(

What kind of RAM do you have and what's it rated to run at? Some system specs would be nice... mobo, vid card and any kind of peripherals like PCI devices and such. Also what kind of lock up is it? Does it BSOD and then lock or just it just plain stop doing everything? Your temps look a bit high but acceptable if those are load temps... so what kinda cooling you have?

yeah.. I gots kingston DDR SDRAM um.. GeForce2 MX 200, umm.. whats a PCI thinge?R :S I feel like an idiot.. but i jus have all factory heatsink fan n' ****... but the thing is .. i used to have pro temps but then my mother board fried fer sum queer ass reason so i took it in and got another one on warranty but it looks different and ever since.. the temps are like waaay higher!! and in the bios the temp is always like above 60 so i dont believe them.. cuz in windows the temps are around 26-30 idle!

should the heatsink fan be blowing towards the CPU or away?? cuz if i put my fan in front it blows towarn the motherboard! is that right?? sorry i'm new..

and how do yo utell wha tkinda motherboard you have? cuz inside there's big silver Gigabyte thing...whatsat

More info. Can you lock the pci bus in the bios? What voltage are you running. What other pci cards are you running. memory speed? What is the mb? Are you sure the HS is seated well. What kind of thermal paste are you using on HS. What program are you using to tell temps after boot?
If you are showing 60 in the bios that is not a good sign as the proc should cool some during reboot.
And BTW WELCOME TO THE FORUMS!!
Most likely you have not got HS seated good if temps went up a lot after replacing MB. Give us more info and someone will be able to help you. Good luck and I'll check back to see answers and try and help.

Award Software International BIOS v6.00G, what do you mean by lock the PCI Bus?? you can change the speeds that the.. id ont know it says PCI tho and you can change the speeds there! I'm running with the original voltage. you cant change it in the bios, it just tells me that its like.. 1.47v or sumthin close to that and even when i'm runnin at 1.8gig the temp is around 58degrees.

First of all you are not stupid or you would not be here trying to learn. The only dumb question is the one that goes un-asked!
The PCI bus refers to the speed of the PCI slot BUS. That is the slots you put your cards in. Network card modem VC and such.
Some motherboards allow you to set a fixed speed i.e. 33,37...
When I said MB I was asking your MB type. Yes you may be able to raise the voltage to gain stabilty. You reall need to know your memory type pc2100 for example, this could well be what is causing your instability problems. I think that you said it was a GIGIBYTE motherboard. Look for a sticker on the board with #'s and do a search for the board online, you should be able to download a soft copy of the manual...it is very important to read and understand the bios sectionof the manual. You should use some good thermal paste and reseat the heatsink due to the fact your temps went up after changing boards!!
Find the manual this will teach you much!
Let us know what you find out
Look on your RAM chip to see if you can discern it's type search on any name and #'s there too. Good luck and never quit asking I learn something every day!!

If a lot of settings have changed, and you lost track.. there's a "reset bios to default" possibility. And work from there on.

oooh... welll Mb come on!! what do you think of most when you hear that!! but i found my specs sheet and it says that I've got a Galiano 645 motherboard with sound and LAN... so would Gigabyte make Galiano's? or.. is that a seperate company? because i looked on the internet but i couldnt find anythin fer galiano! and also i found out that i have PC2100 DDR ram!! is that good? it soudns good lol.. :) helps! :)
