Well I have been making a newbie mistake. This is how I found out how.

I was having a idle temp of 55C with my SLK-800 and TT smart fan 2. So I took off my heat sink. Lapped it real good and put it back on with some artic alumina, but this time I did a better job mounting it. Before I was not getting the knotch right.

Taaadaaa... Idle temp is now 37C.

AND... I just got some artic silver 3.

...Time to shutdown...

:D

i bet you if you replaced that TT II with tornado or a delta your temps would drop even more.
that 's provided you can stand the noise.

If you can handle the SF2 at full load you can probably handle a delta or tornado....of course if you not running at full speed, it is different ;)

I hear the smart fan works a bit better if you stand the fan off of the heatsink fins just a tiny bit say 1/4 inch or maybe 1/2 inch. This i think allows the airflow time to straighten a tiny bit or such and will be less noisy also. So you could still probably drop your temps even more with the same fan, just try out a few things, funnels, shrouds etc. and see what works best in your case.
