Thought it would be fun if everybody showed their early creations! This was my first one...

this was my second one inspired by Surlyjoe's beehive blocks...I drilled a hole in this lexan block and sunk in a copper end cap with some epoxy.. ..

the lexan block was difficult to make, especially drilling the hole with a hole saw. I came up with a better idea but never went any further than this pic. I also drilled many holes in the bottom of one of my cube blocks and inserted thick copper wires to get more surface area..but that ended in failure. The bottom of the caps are too thin. There was an article out front recently where a guy used copper rivets and these would have been ideal..I especially like the way he put the whole thing on the stove top to solder it. Making your own water blocks is really fun but I eventually ordered a DD maze block to aceive better cooling. I plan on making two of these in a larger size into a inexpensive chiller.

The aluminum block is a milled out box, tapped on the corners 6-32, countersunk machine screws from back of copper plate. mating surface was lapped and bead of Goop for gasket. Tension supplied by springs and nice knurled finger nuts (not pictured)
Used a chopsaw with clamp and metal blade to cut stock and 8"drill press

Could you guys post some temps for those who'd like to know (me). I like that 1st design, just wonderin what you guys get temp wise.

39deg C folding@home on a Duron 650@1050 1.8v. New inline pump will get me another degree or two

My watercooled Duron 650 topped out at about 952Mhz (7x136). What code do you have on your Duron? I was trying to get 1gig but fell short. I believe it's a voltage issue as the temps never go over 40 C under Prime 95 Torture Test Priority 10.
My Code: AKCA 0043UPHW
Thanks in advance,

sorry Open Friday..I didnt record any temps with that first block...but It enabled me to oc my cele 600 to 900 easily. I then started using my second one for a short period until I got the DD block. One thing that I disliked about that first one is that it was difficult to mount because of size and height.
Looks like I might have one of the first homemade water blocks for the old slot style cpu :)

Nice work Mudguts, you never know if you get one to work better than the Danger Den model you might be able to start your own business

I have a week 37 Duron 650 that hit 1080 on a kt7-raid with aircooling. I'm going to slap it in the kt7a that should get here today and see if increasing the fsb will help. It's AKBA0037mpmw
do you really want to see some of my waterblocks? you do relise thye will put me away again.

Awww, come on Spode. Show us the Sunny D bottle again ;D
BTW, what type of temps did you get with that and did you ever find out if the water directly on the core was a bad thing or not?

rugby.... those 37 and 39 are the bomb. When I bought mine there was not many entries in the database but talk was high about the performance from early adoptors. Just plain dumb luck came into play.
We just had a heat jump here in Detroit and waterblock temps have risen about 5 degrees. Room temp must be close to 80 now and it is making a difference. Sealed up an inline pump housing last night and am about to install. Try to get things under 40deg again but I doubt it. Room temp is just too high. But sure is nice outside. Got to move south. Arthritist seems to really like the heat.

I just liked it because it looks relativly easy to make. I could see how clipping would be a problem though on something of that size.

Hey Dr. Surly! ..I consider it an HONOR that you responded to my post! You were the inspiration that started me on this crazy watercooling stuff! I followed you on your site "Upavolt" and especially liked your "huggy bear" humor that made it all fun! (geeks can be pimps too!). I was especially pissed about that Chinese site stealing your ideas! Lead us on Dr. Surly Joe to the promised OC land and never stop inovating!....IM NOT WORTHY!!!....IM NOT WORTHY!!
