I was installing my MCX4000 today and had to remove it once, well when I did, it was hard to pull up, but i did, than i noticed that something was missing from my mobo

the CPU!

it was stick to my heatsink! i used AS3 which i guess has VERY strong suction properties.

BEWARE!

lol, i take the heatsink off first then i pull up the release cpu lever.

I think what He is saying is that He tried to take the HS off first but the CPU came off with it:)

Never heard of a ZRF socket before. ZIF, yes, ZRF, no.

ZIF = Zero Insertion Force
ZRF = Zero Removal Force

I'm assuming the whole processor came out, and not just the die, right?

Yeah, I knew the meanings, just dont get the joke...up too late I guess:)

that would suck...those dies come off really easy if ur not careful

Hopefully all still works after that !

I haven't had that happen with AS3, but when I was testing my water chiller setup I insulated the daylights out of everything.

After one of the factory solder joints let go my temps were a bit higher due to all the insulation.....and the cpu was stuck to the block HARD!

I was a bit surprised that everything still worked after pulling the chip straight out of the socket as well (although I KNEW exactly where it was.....talking a LOT of force was used with mine!!!)

You are positive you didn't use adhesive! AS would never do anything like that!

I thought the die came off on the bottom of the heatsink...:)

no the whole chip came out of the socket while locked! undamaged. it is, however, getting unusualy high temps but it is now stable at 3ghz, it w2asnt before ???? and also there is a fan somewhere that is to loud and its not the cpu or vid card...i just dont get it! this whole rig got messed up from the moment i put that MCX4000 in. my 3Dmarl score is 3100 now! :cry: I might go to W/C

Only fans left are in the Power supply. Did you check that for noise?

those are on rheo, both of them. the only fan not on a reo is the GPU fan but i stoped it with my finger and still noise somewhere....

are the p4 levers weak then?:eh?: or are the pins to small for the clip to grab on to.?:eh?:

Well maybe due to the large surface area of the heat spreader.

thats weard :eh?:

lol.
I did that when I tried to pull my 400Mhz Celeron out that is stuck by some thermopad.
lol!

The same thing happend to me with my P4. I had used a little to much as3 I think. Both the heatsink and the cpu was lapped so the connection between them was tight. When I removed the heatsink the cpu came with it. No harm done though, it still works like a charm. :)

Hard drive? That the most noisy part in my comp, Maxtor. :/

This is a common problem usually associated with using to much Arctic Silver thermal paste, using too much will cause the CPU to 'stick' to the heatsink or waterblock ;)
