Question regarding RAM memories

I was wondering what's the difference between an 8-chip and a 16-chip 256MB RAM memory module. My type is DIMM, I believe.

The density or to say it another way the memory capacity of the chips.

lets say , If I have a 16 pin module , will be better than one that is exactly the smae but has 8 pins?

Have to try it. Too many variables that might make one oc better than the other.
