instead of buying say corsair 3200 ram with a heatspreade, buy anoter brand of ram without a heatspreader also rated at 3200 and buy a heatspreader seperatly. that way u have ram that should run 400mhz ddr without spreader, think how fast it would run with one, or do heatspreaders not make that much difference?
 
heatspreaders are worthless. They look good, but that's it. Even a humongously overvolted and overclocked DDR stick will disspate less than 10 watts. In some cases, poorly designed heatspreaders actually make temps worse than before!

IMHO, don't bother with heatspreaders. If they are already attached, fine, but no need to go adding them.
