Wow Opie420, I see why you've got such a good OC, you've got extreme cooling for everything :)
I think most people get around 2.2 to 2.3GHz, or at least that's what it says at the article (http://www.overclockers.com/tips00163/) at the main page.

There is no such thing as CAS 3 DDR. The slowest it could be is CAS 2.5

prolly with watercooling and a handpicked 2400 from AMD =)

AIUCB 0240 in an ECS K7S5A at 15x146.7 for 2205 at default 1.65 v (actual 1.63V) with Alpha 8045. Will push for me this weekend.

AIUCB 0242, best Prime Stable is 190x11.5@1.85v, best OC is 180x12.5 see results here (http://www.groveindependentschool.co.uk/2400+/cpu.htm)

I reckon you need at least water cooling if not phase change to get the best out of this CPU...

With prometia cooling, and a normal chip. Even with subzero temperatures it would perform like the chips here, untill it was fed over 2v. Prometia is like vapochill, don't know what it would be in english, phase change?

i think there is somethin seriously wrong with your memory results on pc mark 2002
just compare it with mine :)

http://service.madonion.com/compare?pcm=794401

what speed is your ram running ?

your 3dmark score is really the fastest i have seen so far for an amd rig
but beating an oc'ed p4 you would need some pts more hehe

here is mine for example http://service.madonion.com/compare?2k1=4928694

my radeon isn't even at your speed , i think at this speeds it would be an easy 1000pts more or even 1500 ;)

amd really needs something new and faster now hehe

Nah, if you compare mine against other AMD systems (do a search in ORB and limit the mhz to 2800) you'll see that my memory score still beats the other AMD systems ('cept for the dudes with 200mhz fsb). For that PCM run my memory was running at 184mhz, all lowest timings including 1T command rate.

The peltier I was running on my 9700 is dead so I probably won't be able to update my 3dmark score for a week or two, but I just picked up a whole bunch of new parts (another 2400+, new mobo, ram, psu, etc...) so I should be able to beat my old pcm by the end of the weekend...

i did a reserach on the 3dmark database looking for the amd top score
found something like 18xxx can't remember the exact score
he oc'ed his radeon to 520mhz core lol
thats really crazy :)
is a peltier all i need to reach such insane oc's ? :)
and the volt-mod of course ...

Opie420
11-02-02, 08:19 AM
For starters you need a peltier and watercooling. I used a 172W TEC (it's dead now) so I'm switching to a 226W. Then you'll need to voltmod the card. I also attached small connectors to the vcore/vmem caps so I can read the voltage on a multimeter to fine-tune the voltmod.

Opie420

Yeah the shim is great it came with the prometia kit. The prometia kit comes with shims for both palomino and t-bred, but the t-bred shim is made for a tbred-a so I had to cut it up a bit to fit. I still haven't tried the new 2400+ yet because I don't have a shim, and the shim on my other 2400+ is superglued on. But now that I think about it, I can just hack up the palomino shim......

By using shorter screws to hold down the evaporator I got lower die temps and a better overclock. I think the screws that come with the kit are designed to bottom out at a "safe" level. Or maybe the screws made no difference and the cpu is just breaking in. Anyways, it is prime95 stable at 2513mhz and pcmark stable at 2538.

Here is the obligatory full-screen shot (btw I ran it overnight at this speed):

http://opie420.com/fullscreen.jpg

and my pcmark compare: http://service.madonion.com/compare?pcm=801686

btw that's with a single 120gb drive and my old gf3 ti500 (I fried the TEC on the 9700, so no new 3dmark scores for at least a week)

Also here is an interesting wcpuid:

http://opie420.com/wcpuid_3.jpg

This is all at 2.05v which is the highest my mobo will go. I'm going to volt-mod it tonight and shoot for 2600mhz...

edit: here is a better pcmark compare at 2562mhz: http://service.madonion.com/compare?pcm=804191

Hi,

this is my (today bought) XP2400+ - so I can't really say whether this is really stable or not - but at least it runs now for about 2hours with various programs (Fritz7 (Chessprogram), Folding@Home, SuperPi - so the frequency shown is not only a screenshot under completely irrelevant circumstances! (the CPU is watercooled in a normal environment (20°C))!

The max. frequency, at which I was able to get into Windows was 2537 MHz.! (far from stable @ 2,15V)

1) Core/week XP2400+ 0241
2)Mult x FSB 12,5 x 195 (WCPUID 2448MHz.)
3) Memory 1x256MB Corsair 3200C2
4) RAM Ratio 1:1 (2-2-2-5 "turbo")
5) Mobo Epox8k3a+
6) CPU voltage/RAM voltage 2V/2,5V
7) Cooling-&-Idle/Load temps WaterCooled/37°C/40°C

dude, something really weird, my amd2400+ gets 47C in bios on the volcano9, lemme install everything and then check out with sisoft sandra and the asus probe. right now i'm not overclocking anything, running every parts at stock speed.

ok a few ?'s:
i'm geting a 2400+
AT7-MAX2
512 Corsair 3200 CAS2
Albatron 4200P turbo
Audigy SC
those are my only PCI+Vid card will they take 40/80Mhz?

Its on a 8/10 watercooling setup.

Asumming i get a very overclockable CPU steeping:
What mobo settings should i have to get a FSB of 200 and how many Mhz can i get outa that...looking for atleast 2.4

just put together my new system on an A7n266C (newegg refurb!). If I try to change the multiplier, system wont boot. So with some FSB overclocking I managed to get to 155x15 at 1.8V. Temps only registering 35C at idle...gonna do some stress testing tonight. Will probably wait till a stable revision of the A7NX board comes out. Weird thing I have observed is that the proper speed is reflected in BIOS but WCPUID only registers default bus and CPU speeds.

Highest Ive been so far on my AIUCB 0242, needs 2.00v, idle temp at this is 57c!! Any ideas on how I can lower my temps? - will a shim help? I think its because of the small core size as my coolermaster heat pipe + 7k rpm delta used to be up to the job of most Athlons!
I cant get any multiplier higher than 12.5 either, 14x and 15x give mne like 5x and 5.5x, I think ive shorted my 4th L3 bridge when unlocking 5th L3....

Benchmark done by Sandra 2003 Pro Win32 Unicode Edition

(1)AIUCB 0242 VPAW
(2)149 x 15 = 2235 mhz MBM5 report as 2249mhz
(3)DDR setting: Turbo (but Command Timing @ 2T)
(4)Mobo Epox 8kHA+
(5)Vcore 1.85/Vdmm 2.7
(6)Cooler Master HHC-001 Heat Pipe

However, I think I know what is handling me back to past system bus at 154mhz. It is my power supply, because MBM5 shows my 5V line is at 4.87~4.89.

** This system bus speed @ 149 produces better benchmark results than @ 150 ~152
** also I only use one stick of DDR as I suspect the other DDR stick is giving me problems
