If my end objective is 1.4-1.5ghz (or higher if heat allows), should i start @ 1.0 or 1.2?

Should I go with a 1.0ghz Tbird or a 1.2ghz?

For my cooling specs...scroll down and look at "Which one of these HSF's would work out best for me? " I would link it, but it wont let me...like my browser displays just "www.overclockers.com" :(

basically- GlobalWin WBK38 w/80mm fan.

Anyway, is it worth that extra 20 bucks or so to start @ 1.2ghz? or will a 1.0tbird be basically assured to reach 1.4-1.5 (or higher...yay!)?

You can reach 1.4 to 1.5 with a 1 gig, axia without much of a problem. The key is the coding-axix. You can reach 1.3 to 1.35 with a avia. Some venders advertise this codes, or you can go to a computer show, and hand pick your processor.(This is what I did). Using good memory will help your overclock, and keep it cool...

if im not assured an AXIA/other OCable code...then would it be safer to start from 1.2? or maybe 1.1? or would 1.0 still be just fine...?

Basically all axia's reach 1.33ghz with standard voltage, some require extra voltage for 1.4-1.5ghz and a couple will do 1.5ghz+. The 1.33ghz AXIA usually reaches over 1.5ghz though so I would think amd chooses the very best axia cores for 1.33ghz. Just find a vendore that advertises the AXIA code and get the 1ghz chip as the 1.2ghz AXIA won't get any higher and it's not certain that a 1.2ghz will be an AXIA. The AVIA seems to be just as good as an AXIA and usually reaches 1.4ghz+ as well so that would also be a good choice.

I've got a 1.2 AVIA cooled by a Glaciator with lots of case fans. It does 1380 at default 1.85v and 1420 at 1.95v. I'm wondering if I should try 2.05v. Not sure if 2.05v is an acceptable voltage or not. Can someone tell me if 2.05v is ok for a Tbird 1.2?

I think I would save the money and get a 1 Ghz. I have a 1 Ghz at 1.4, and all I have is a CAK38, an intake and exhaust fan, and one side fan. It is an AXIA that I got at www.newegg.com. From what I hear, they sell mostly AXIAs.

hmmm...that's interesting...but, several of the 1.0's barely make it past 1.2...

Are those 1.0's that dont perform well older chips that I probably wouldnt come across? (given the large volume of tbirds that are selling...if those are older, they're probably gone by now...)

I ordered my 1.2GHZ chip from www.tcwo.com and they gave me a AXIA I love it.
