One of my friends JUST got his Millenium Glaciator, and the red wire from the three pin connector was broken off from inside the fan. Now, conventional electrial knowledge says that the black and red are power, and so the blue would be the monitoring wire (it's a three pin connector: blue, red, and black). I don't know if this is repairable by us, since the fan sits down in the heatsink, and the heatsink is soldered together. Should I tell him to send it back, or should we attempt the repair? Or does it even need to be repaired (again, conventional electrical: all wires are useful, and shouldn't hang loose)?

Send it back. Why would you settle for something broken and try to repair it, risking further damage and less of a chance being able to return it?

You ordered a working fan not a broken one right?

True, but it's just the convenience of having it now. Now, my friend has to wait until it gets shipped back, and they ship a new one to him. Just the frustration of waiting. But after looking at the block, there's no way it can be fixed by myself or my friend, and still have it working. He's emailing them now.
