How do you take screen shots?? of things on desktop and what ever you want???

There are no stupid questions. Hit the print screen button then paste into your favorite image program. A good one is irfanview. http://www.irfanview.com/english.htm
free and will resize and change formats plus a lot of other stuff.

What he said... cntl+print screen and then paste into an image program (even MS Paint will do).

Yup, and they outlined the two different ways:

PrintScreen = entire screenshot

Ctrl - PrintScreen = screenshot of only active application.
