You can use the XP CD to partition and format your drive. Easy how to here: http://www.webtree.ca/windowsxp/repair_xp.htm
The real question is why won't it let you boot from the XP CD. I'd double check the CDROM's configuration.

That would probably work....but the thing is, I dont have an XP cd....so I cant do that.

go to http://bootdisk.com there you can download a bootdisk with the tools you need to FDISK and Format

does your cd-rom show up in BIOS?

Get the WD disk utility from there site then put it on a floppy and start it that way you will be able to set it up just fine. Boot disk.com is good too.

That thing is beautiful. The WD utility disk is amazing. I don't know why it works when nothing else will, but it's simply wonderful.

If it is the same exact error as in your first post, you have the BIOS set to boot from a CDROM rather than the floppy drive.
Here is a link to Maxblast: http://www.maxtor.com/en/support/downloads/maxblast_plus_ii.htm

Data lifeguard. It will make a floppy you can boot from and do what you need to do.

If the light on the floppy is allways on, then the cable is 180 degrees off. The light should come on briefly, and go out.

Hmmm, not having much luck tonight are you?
I'd guess bad floppy, bad format, or possibly a bad drive.
Which one are you trying to use?
The Dr. DOS file is an executable, you have to run it by double clicking, and it will load to a floppy. Just in case you didn't know, I don't mean to insult your intelligence.
