I have just got a Thermoengine HS & Fan. It has got a square of grey squidgy rubber type stuff on the cpu mating surface. Should I scrape it off and clean it with isopropanol, or put ASII on the grey sh*t?
advice plz ppl

Lose the pad. Clean off any residue it may leave behind. Put the AS on the core. Mount it, pat it on the butt and let it rip.
For a little more reward, consider lapping the ThermoEngine baseplate. The one I got had milling micro-grooves in it that you could feel with your fingernail. Articles on lapping abound.

I'll throw in, a lot of people feel it's necessary to scrape the pad off with a knife or sharp object. In doing that you'll generally put some pretty deep gouges in the sink. Patience and solvent........you can remove it w/o damaging the sink. If you plan on lapping it (which you should) it's not a big deal, but small scrapes can look like the grand canyon in the cooling business.
