For overclocking Can't Beat Epox. They are both good brands.

Kato

Its offical out, but not on the market yet...I think:D
Yeah, Epox will beat Asus in OCing anyday.

Geez why not check the site? http://www.epox.com/html/motherboard.asp?product=EP-8RDAplus&lang=1 It clearly states the max FSB is 333 too bad the voltage isn't listed.

It also doesn't have the Nvidia audio ! It uses a realtek chip instead :( . I guess to bring down costs .

It does have soundstorm. It's using the realtek chip but the nvidia soundstorm drivers.

Are you sure of this? From my emails with Epox sales, the first revisions will not have Soundstorm. I always thought this was shady, but a few retailers have told me the same thing, so I went out and bought the A7N8x instead. Then PC-Pitstop FUBAR'd my RAM order.  :bang head :temper:

I'm going to get this board, not because of the memory bandwidth, but because of the LOCKABLE PCI BUS!
That's right, no more dealing with PCI divisors. And if I know Epox, that means that we will no longer have to worry about the board or the PCI devices as far as limiting factors to an overclock.
Add the unlockable AMD processors, and only your memory will limit your overclock. PC3500? PC3500! Thats what... 215FSB? WITHOUT overclocking the memory? ;)
:burn: :burn: :burn:

Yes, I am excited.

The Epox does not have a pci lock! Read this forum. Really long I know.

http://www.aoaforums.com/forum/showthread.php?threadid=11033&perpage=20&pagenumber=7

It doesn't have pci lock and they don't want to talk about it? Even banning someone who granted was a little rude, but hmmmm....

As much as I have been an epox fan, the only board that has confirmed agp and pci lock right now is the asus.

Does either board have a model with RAID onboard?

Can you use pc3500 with it, even though it only says it will support pc3200??

Use 3500 only because it can support higher speeds(oc it anyway...)

i think on this broad u divied the agp speed by 2 to get the pci speed

Only a guess

I would say just wait a little while longer. Why you say?

1. Most motherboards have some kinks in the first revision of the board.

2. Later versions sometimes overclock better than the earlier ones.

3. Rumors of a new stepping for the Nforce 2 SPP. (supposedly able to clock to 250fsb, 500ddr)

4. You will know what to realistically expect from the board after some others do the guinnea pig thing.

5. There are no reviews out that use an unlocked CPU so many of the review Overclocks are limited by the cpu. (may change by the time you read this)

6. Prices should only go down after some more boards come out and you will have a better idea of which one is really the best.

i'll probably order the broad soon so i want to know if i'm better off with the aus Mb or Epox's MB

What do you mean unlock, isn't NF2 the same with Kt400? Like as long as you are using a tbred, you can use all the multipilers, right?

PhobMX
11-23-02, 10:35 AM
i second werewolf, if you can wait a little longer hold your horses. But if you must buy now get the ASUS, C.O.P and AGP/PCI divisor are tha sh*t ;)

i'm facing the same dilemma, but i don't see how the epox may be a better overclocker, if they have the same options wouldn't it just depend on your processor and ram? and does the epox have sata?

Tamasha_Strife

EPoX has been producing extremely high quality overcloking boards lately so we're expecting a lot from their NForce2 board. Unfortunately it doesnt look it'll have PCI lock =( that would be very bad...

Caffinehog
11-23-02, 01:18 PM
Yeah... after checking a certain forum, I see that it does not have a PCI lock. And a certain Epox person refuses to answer whether the board has a 1/6 divisor. And they're banning anyone who asks the question again. :( This indicates to me that the board probably only has the 1/5 divisor... disappointing.

I just want to know how people are doing with the A7N8X.....

I'm enjoying mine thoroughly. When my replacement 3200 comes in on Monday, I plan on dropping my multiplier into the single digit range and OCing the FSB like no one's business :) I hope to do at least 215 by 9 or something to that effect.
