I "purchased" a 266FSB xp2600 cpu...but received the 333fsb version. Rather than deal with the dorks who sold it to me I was hoping someone could tell me which bridges should be closed on L3 to get to a multiplier of 16x?
Am I right to assume this is possible and that only the L3 bridge needs modifying in this case?

Also...I recognize that there are only 4 full bridges on L3 since it looks like this...

. . . .
. . . . .

If anyone knows...please tell me which of the 4 should be closed and whether i need to worry about the first one.
a link would be great if anyone has one.

thx,
P

It should be unlocked anyway - just try it. But make sure you have the latest BIOS in your mobo to support it.

My motherboard doesn't support multiplier settings.
We have a team of people over at 2cpu.com working on it...but it's been months without success.
And now this....
I hate sending these damn things back...they never pickup shipping and now I've got arctic silver all over the core...lol

You need to update your BIOS to rev 1007 - according to the Asus website the chip is definitely supported.
Edit actually only the 266 for the Xp2600+ is supported!

My board is the dually board....
it definitely is working...but there is no bios adjustment of the multiplier.

AMD's Multiplier Code for 16X for Tbred CPUs with 5 L3 bridges = C-O-C-O-O, from L to R, C=Closed, O=Open.
16X is possible if "mobo" doesn't throw a fit.
There should be 5 L3s on Tbreds, not 4.
http://www.beachlink.com/candjac/index.htm link to Multiplier Code article for openers...others as you see fit...to "understand" AMD's Multiplier Code instead of just being told to "do this/do that".

I should have edited my post...
yes there are ofcourse 5 bridges.... the alcohol was blurring my vision.
Anyway.... I cut the last two today....without any problems...
I tested the break with a volt meter....
So I'm now at....
O---O---C---O---O which is 16.5X
If I have to I'll go to 16.0X by filling one...but maybe I can end up with a little OVERCLOCKED cpu!!!!
Let's hope.
Did it at work...will check at home.
thx for the help.

Why the hell are you angry about paying for a 266 and getting a 333? Seriously?

It's funny how the www is a very small place ;)

Yeah, about that multiplier... It's not ever going to work on the a7m266-d. :( I've had many futile attempts, and have actually given up a few months ago.

No problems. the xp2600 for the 333mhz bus is running stable at 2.36GHZ with the 16.5X multiplier mod and I'll probably try to up it a bit.
It posts as an XP3013+ woot!!!!
I appreciate everyone's help here and HDJ and the the guys in 2cpu.com.
thx,
P
