View Full Version : Turbo Link 430w PS but 5v line is only 4.85 Help!

Ok.... what is wrong here.... I bought this new case that comes with Turbo Link 430w PS. I thought I would have stable power but I didn't! Looking at my m5m my 5 V line drop all the way to 4.85 or lower. My older PS(300w) was able to get 4.9v....
is Turbo Link PS totally unreliable or I did something wrong?
I have no FAN attachment to my mobo (water cooled) and I use digital Doc 5 to control all the fans which uses a 12v connector..
I have one Geforce3 card, SBLive 5.1, Netgear NIC and Promosie IDE control card on the pci slot.
Was this problem associated with my mobo Epox 8kha+?
If indeed Turbo Link sucks, which PSU is reliable? ENERMAX? ANTEC? THERMALTAKE? or VANTEC?

4.85V is only 3% low and well within the 5% limit, but if you want to find out if it could be due to a bad connection, measure the voltage on a completely unused drive cable (no current draw = no voltage drop), and if it's higher then you know that the problem is the connection to the mobo.
Are you measuring with a real meter? I've had mobo measurements disagree by as much as 2.6% points with my meter, which is rated 0.5% or better for accuracy.

yeah- dont worry about it. If it gets down to 4.75 and your rig is unstable then its time to worry.
I've actually got the same PSU and despite the fact that it's cheap, it actually works very well. This is the one with two clear 80mm fans in it, right?

yeah... that is right... the one with 2 clear case fan on it... and it was a bundle deal w/ the chieftec case from www.newegg.com
and after spent 3hrs reading the sticky Why is my 5V so low? Read this (http://forum.oc-forums.com/vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=58333&perpage=50&pagenumber=1) and i measure the voltage on a unused cable. the max out put from that PS was only 4.91 and that's it. The voltage from the PS out was never 5V.... I am very disappointed and I am looking for a new PS...... which one do you suggest?
Well, I kinda got mine by accident. I ordered what I thought was a Sparkle badged Channelwell supply and received the turbolink supply instead. Oh, don't buy from Amamax... Anyway, I was very disappointed at first but this supply actually works really well. My 5v line is dead on in MBM but read only slightly high through a meter on one of the molex plugs. If I where to buy a brand new supply, I'd probably go for a 350W Sparkle. If you get it from Newegg, I think you'll pay less than everywhere else that has it. From what I've read on the forums here, they're pretty tough to beat.

I want to order a new power supply... I am very upset with this turbolink 430w .... I cant oc as much compare to my old 300w powersupply. I tried to set the vcore to 1.85v at stock speed... bios posts... windows xp loads... then.... my digital doc 5 alert sound for low 5v.... it drops to 4.75v then my window xp blue screen.

mine is exactly at 5.00v never below with a 2400+ @ 2417Mhz and 2.175 volts

wuzzapiman ,
You are using turbo Link 430w PSU? because I use digital multimeter measure one of unused cable (red wire). It is only 4.90 V straight out from the PS.
I am using Epox 8KHA+ with AMD 2400+
Both my digital multimeter and my digital doc 5 (digital therm management hardware) shows my 5v line were never over 4.9v. The reading I got from mbm5 was even lower, never reaches 4.85. If this is the case, did I just got a bad PSU from www.newegg.com?

the 8kha+ has really really bad power regulation. if u changed to a new motherboard maybe u may get higher values. :D

I agree with you on that Epox 8KHA+ does a bad reputation on bad power regulation.
However, I measure the 5v before it hits the Motherboard. an used 5v wire straight from the PSU! was only 4.9v on digital multimeter and 4.89v on digital doc 5. When it goes to the Mobo, it drops to 4.81v!
All I ever want is a stable 5v line and now I found it is so hard to get that.
By the way I am looking at Enermax 550w (http://www.newegg.com/app/Showimage.asp?image=17-103-417-01.JPG/17-103-417-02.JPG/17-103-417-03.JPG/17-103-417-04.JPG/17-103-417-05.JPG) EG651P-VE(FMA), from www.newegg.com. Is it good?

NEVER EVER use an enermax psu on an epox mobo. those 2 have issues that wud read to a lower (say 4.70-) 5v rails! go with Antec, Sparkle or a HEC.
OR you kud crack open your psu, and find if it has pots inside. You kud adjust ur voltages from there. be careful though, but i guess u already knew that :D
BUT i wudnt worry about those voltages if i were you. as long as its running stable, dont fuss it. :D
btw, are u oc'd? wuts ur vcore and vdimm?
My turbolink is at a perfect 5volts too. This supply has no potentiometers to adjust voltage. What you have is what you get. I really think you just got a below average unit. My 5 rails only drop under 5 during heavy loads and they only go as low as 4.84 during worst case usage. Works fine for me though. I think you should explore RMAing the thing before worrying about buying a new one.

It is very unstable for me... if I change my Vcore to 1.85.... my digital doc 5 alerm set off when win xp just finished loading.... my v5 line drop to 4.75 then windows blue screen.
It is a bundle deal... and I don't think I will RMA it.... and I want to order a FSP-400w.

Should do you very nicely then. I think the 350 would be plenty, but who ever said plenty was enough! ;)

Muggy,
thanks for the recommandation about Sparkle
I did a research on this forum as well... and also read the ps test on tom's hardware... and I believe FSP can be trusted....
as for this turbo link 430w. it works at stock vol stock speed. just my mobo is bad with power management... most of the mobo should do fine with 4.9v but my doesnt. It is good for you to get a 5v perfect turbo link but 4.9v and 5v the difference is still within the error margin percentage +-3%, so I won't RMA it. I mean after all.. it was a bundle deal for a bargain price
Glad to help! PM me when you get the new supply in. I'm interested to know how much better it works for you.

Maybe cuz mine came with my case (www.case-mod.com)
it is ussually around 5.03 or so. [in MBM5]

Sparkle's are terrific with EpoX boards. Highly recommend one for yours.

I got my Sparkle 400w today and it is perfect! I can adjust the 5.0v by turning the POTs. It works great. Now I have perfect 5v and 12v line.
5.03v/12.10v
Vcore @ 1.85v
Vdmm @ 2.6v
and I can over clock my system to
149x16 = 2384mhz on a AMD XP 2400+
