most people recommend the SLK 800 or the AX-7. the SLK likes higher CFMs so is going to be very noisey after you factor in RPMS and turbulence. the AX7 is more of a solid hunk seems to be quieter. never heard of the MCX462. link some pics

i would say that the SLK would be the better choice. the SLK is pure copper which is better at conducting heat than alum. the other looks like it has a copper base and alum top. the alum top would need to be epoxied and continuity would be lost where the 2 peices came together even with good thermal paste. i'd say of the 2 the SLK would be better. i have the SLK 800 and it lowered my temps 10 degrees over an alum sink with 60mm fan. and i still have to put thermal paste on it.

The SLK800 (0.23 C/W) fairs a little better than the MCX462+ (0.26) at dissipating heat. If you look at the reviews for these two heatsinks on this website, the SLK800 lowest temperature is 43.5 C while the MCX462+ was 39.2 C. To me both these heatsinks are pretty much the same with the MCX462+ fairing somewhat better. Be sure to have a high cfm fan for the SLK800. If your motherboard doesn't have four mounting holes then the SLK800 is your best cooling option.
slk-800, ax-7, alpha pal 8045 are some of the good ones. answer to your question: slk-800!

The Thermalright is a better performer, but I've always liked the look of the Swifties myself. Also I think the Thermalrights are noisier.
how can you beat....a inch of copper and aluminum helicoild pins!??!! its by far better cooling... copper takes heat in faster than aluminum..BUT... aluminum lets go of heat quicker.. thats why they did it like that... and it WORKS =)
The SLK-800 performs marginally better then the MCX-462+, or whatever the latest swifty version.
shauns: the SLK-800 ius how you beat that. But just barely.

under the tips and techniques on the front page you can find the heatsync ratings here you
www.overclockers.com
can find the heatsync ratings of the two and it explains how they are rated, the thermalright beat the swifty by a hair, but i dont think youd find much difference in temps, get whatevers cheaper.

On the subject of which one heatsink is better depends on if you love the four hole mounting or not. The swiftech is very good and performance wise i doubt you will see a large performance spread from one or the other. The swiftech aluminum pins are screwed into the copper base at very high pressure. Aluminum is used for the pins because it is lighter thus able to give you alot more surface area with the same weight. Unless you want a five pount copper pin fin heatsink aluminum pins are the way to go especially in the swiftech design. The SLK-800 uses solder on the fins and what not also, its not 100% copper unlike the skive heatsinks but hey the slk-800 does pretty well eh? And weight for weight funny thing aluminum can "hold" more heat than copper. Its just copper is nearly 3x more dense and copper spreads heat better than aluminum. Aluminum "gives up" heat seemingly better because it has less mass per volume compaired to copper of the same volume. Use the search feature and google, research on how metals and the theory work. Personally i think you could look at the MCX462+ rather than the MCX462 as the upgraded version is roughly the same price and performs even better.

depending on your processor however you can mount a pelt with the MCX-462+
however this is not common anymore. and you cant efficiently mount a pelt on the slk due to the fact that the base is something like 25mm not 40. i would personally go for the swifty i like it better and the slk-800 like said above loves cfms and is a jet engine as apposed to the fact that id mount a 120mm on it but still...
