Well I used to have this one folder in my computer when I put any file in it the file would become access denied. (I.E. I put a text document to test on how long it would take, 3 days later I could not delete the file, edit it, or even open it.) Well I bought a new hard drive today and copied one folder that I needed from one hard drive to the other and then I formatted the old one. Well I still cannot get into that folder, it tells me access denied. I really need to know how to access this folder because it has very important information in it which I need to access.

This is all on XP. Please HELP! Thanx.

open explorer
Tools>folder options>view>uncheck use simple file sharing (last option at bottom of list)

reboot

now rt click the file > properties > and change ownership of the file(logged on as administrator whole time) by selecting the appropriate optins (dig through the tabs).

By default XP uses simple file sharing, changing this will allow you more direct control over files.
