View Full Version : Duron Overclocking
I am overclocking my Duron Morgan 1.2 and have it up to 1400 mhz (10x140) stable, however whenever a 3d app is loaded the computer crashes. The temps are reasonable (43 C at max load) with a voltage of 1.85. I have isolated the memory and the power source out of the equation, with repeated stress testing and monitoring of voltage fluctuation (as in barely at all). Is there any solution to this problem.

how did you test for CPU stability? I usually use Prime95 which will indicate on any stability problems with the memory or CPU.
What are the timings you're running the RAM at? did you try to up the RAM voltage and see if this helps? in 3d apps what can be affected is CPU, RAM and video card, do you have your vid card OCed? if you do, try to set it to normal speed and see what hapens. or you can try 10.5 multi x 133 which will give you same 1400MHz but the RAM will not go out of spec, see if still remains stable, if it does, then it most likely the RAM, if it doesn't, then the CPU is just not stable

I agree with The Coolest. Try 10.5x133 for the sake of testing just the CPU, and if that's stable, then it's your ram...

I have a 1.2 but cant get 1400 stable either.
I have good ram - samsung 2700.
My processor will crash on the multimedia part of sandra - i guess similar to the 3d thing you have.
I can manage 8*170 = 1360 which is quite nice though for a duron 1.2
Happy ehough with that, unless i get some really good cooling ( im on a cheap coolermaster - gets to high 40's under load)
Those morgan cores had their limits, without a tremendous amount of voltage or really good cooling it might NOT be possible to run 1.4ghz with that proc.
**edit -- forgot the ever-important "not" in my post! lol **

I have had three Morgan 1.2GHz cpu's. Two maxed out at 1375MHz and 2.0v using good air cooling. I usually ran them at 1330Mhz with 1.90v or so. One hit 1385Mhz at 2.1v.
My 1.3 ran 13x108=1404 at 1.8V and 57C load with a cheap HSF. I'm shooting for 10.5x139=1460 once I put a better HSF on it. Right now it's at 10x139 and running a bit warm, but stable.

mine was 13x109 = 1417 at 1.85V temp 51C with air.
It is now dead , as I crushed the core installing the Watercooling.

mine will run @ 1380 @1.75 volts but i dont think i can say it is perfectly stable, it is @ 1356 with a volcano 7+ on low

My 1.3GHz Duron is running at 1.417GHz (FSB=109) on default voltage (1.79v, Gigabyte board:rolleyes: ) it runs 24/7 Folding, playing games, etc... No problem
Got 1.35GHz out of my 1GHz Duron. 1.92V and around 42C under load. Might have a little more in it but I'm happy to have that out of it.
