A Thermalright SLK800 is $15 while a Innovatek H20 kit is over $200. yet according to this test, they produce almost the same results. The Thermalright fan keeps the CPU temp about 10C over ambient while the Innovatek keeps CPU temp about 7C over ambient. is the thermalright this good? why would i get water cooling if a fan and heatsink would do just as well?

cause the SLK-800 with a good fan is loud as hell.. also the SLK800 is in upwards of $45 (heatsink only), dunno where you got $15 from.
and the Innovatek kit does the chipset and video card i believe?

I've get the SK-7 for 1/2 the price of the SLK-800, and put a 84CFM sunon 80mm fan on it. Ambient temps for me are about 80F and my primary rig runs at about 37C load. I did the 7v mod and I'm still at about 38-39C. Great combination IMO, and all for under $30 :D (Prim rig btw....nice bit of heat output)

a homemade watercooling setup is 140 bucks only if your time is worthless. :(

Your time is worth what you make it! If you are in it for the buisiness angle then your time could be worth....say....$55 per hour. Or if you are doing it for the joy of accomplishment there is no cost that is the joy of creation. Creating a living functioning system.
Price for my time who cares...

yeah, nobody loves throwing a new (or even old for that matter) box together more than I do, but homebrew watercooling, while very novel, and quite the engaging project, would be too much of a timesink to be worthwhile to me :( Besides, it's beyond my area of expertiese, and my roommate sure wouldn't appricate me turning my half of the dorm into a workshop :D I can totally understand the pride in something you've built, but it's just too much of a commitment for me. Different strokes for differnent folks, or however the cliche goes :D
and heck? 140 bucks? thats near enough to upgrade to SMP (on an AMD system, anyway). Just get two 8045's with some Pabst or Panaflo's on there. Nearly as quiet, more powerful, less needy, and two is always better than one

I just put together a homemade setup and it didn't take long at all. If you buy a prefabbed heater core like the ones from DTEK, there really isn't much to it.
i think ill just stick w/ my avc sunflower. it cools pretty good.
