I can get a PIII 1.4 S 512Kb for £45 (UK) plus my 1.0A Celeron. Is this gonna be worth it? This is my wife's machine which she uses for Photoshop, web browsing and she wants to try her hand on a bit of video editing coz I'm getting her an AIW 8500 (very cheap). By the way there is 2 x 256 PC133 7ns Kingston memory which can do 145 cas2 and 150 cas3 stable and the gigabyte MATX board don't have no vcore settings in the bios. Thanks in advance.

If you already have a 1.0a Celeron, then I'm not sure upgrading is worth the money. Sure, the P-III will have more cache, but if you're going to spend money, I'd make the plunge to P-4 instead of wasting money upgrading a 1.0a, which already is a good CPU and will overclock quite well. That's my opinion.

since the ram cant go past 150 i wouldnt do the trade, the main advantage of the PIII would be getting some nice arse ram and getting high fsbs and more bandwith, the only area in which the PIII struggles against athlons and P4s....

By the way I have a P4 rig already check sig........this is my wife's machine and I've briefly outlined its day to day use. This is a trade in offer for an extra £45 (UK Sterling) and I paid £35 for the Cel 1.0A two months ago, so it will be like £80 (UK Sterling) for the PIII 1.4 S which are still selling at about £160-180 here in the UK.

Anywere if the perfomance gain is not with the extra money I will keep the 1.0A and save £45.

I agree, I wouldn't trade. I'd bank the money for a later P4 upgrade.

I had a 1.0A@1450 then a 1.26@1434 and now a 1.40@1585 and the difference isn't anything at all for 3d gaming but the difference is huge for highly CPU intensive activities (like SETI)

but if its just for screwing around on the internet then dont waste your cash unless you plan to keep that rig for a while.
