Untill recently my copy of Windows Millenium Edition (or maybe- Moron Exclusive) was working as well as expected (crashes every other day, security issues blah blahs blah).

after getting a recomendation in THIS (http://forum.oc-forums.com/vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=128351) thread- I used IEradicator, as this was supposed to make Win M.E slightly more relaible, and it did- for a week or so!

after which it began to return to its old self (but I had re-installed Internet Explorer- so it could have been my fault).
So I decided to use "98Lite" (url in the other thread)- I didn't like the effect it had on my system so I uninstalled it from Control Panel (the ReadMe told me to) and it said something like "UnInstall complete- please run Setup.Exe in this folder to finish UnInstall", so I did- and my PC has been running odd.

As me and my g/f both use the PC- I decided to make use of the Users facility (accessable from Control Panel) and make 3 users (me, G/F and mum)- After I ran the Setup.Exe (which looked like it just re-installed the entire OS), i noticed that although all my files were intact- the OS automaticly opened into a neutral username (like clicking Cancel in the logon screen if your familier with M.E), to gain access to my files I either have to search through C:drive or log out (which will take me to the login screen) and log in with my username.

Anyone know how to fix this without a total re-install of the OS?

I tried to delete the User settings-reboot-re-input user settings but with no effect.

I think it's time to start saving for a copy of Win2K Pro :eh?:

Here's hoping for a quick recovery..

BTW- it might help to know that I DO NOT have an OS disk- the OS was supplied with my store assembled system and is built into my hard-drive.

Ok one question, is the Log poplar or pine ? I've heard that some nice green poplar will deal with windows ME very well just make sure you get the box @ the right angel so it gets the job done other wise you wont be able to get the "Login" ;)

Getting a decent answer in this place is like getting blood out of a stone!! :bang head:

But I think I sorted it out anyway. I deleted the user profiles, used MSconfig to delete obslete registary things and had a manual poke around in RegEdit (no prob so far).

BTW- It was a Yule Log :santa:

go to Start, Control Panel, Network, and select the type of login to Microsoft Network or Windows Logon (whichever it was, choose the other one ;))

Tried the "network" thing last night- no luck I'm afraid.. But I spoke to a guy in my class and he says there is an check-box option somewhere that says something like "show login screen at start-up" but he cant remember where it is.
I might have another look about in RegEdit (Remember kids- ALWAYS BACKUP YOUR REG FILES!!!)

Any thoughts or input on what else I can do would be a great help- A beer goes to the guy (or woman) that gives a workable solution (or the ca$h for a Beer/suitable beverage for those under 18/21/25Depending on Country/State of residence

I know DDR, I thought that was the point but thanks for he laugh :)

And I'm glad to say that its sorted out- I forgot that I had a free copy of WinGuides (www.winguides.com) installed on my computer and I gave it a quick look- It didn't have anything directly about my problem but it gave a few hints that I followed up....
PROBLEM SOLVED

And I can't recommend WinGuides enough- although most of it is about rooting through RegEdit, which can be problematic if you slip up at all but it give loads of tweaks and solutions to speed up your system.

Thanks anyway to both of you for helping or for pure entertainment value.

These Bud's are for you
